Samsung DROID Charge Gets Rooted. Tread Cautiously…

  • July 11, 2011 8:18 am

Feel like unlocking the true potential of your Samsung DROID Charge? The only real way to do so is by rooting said device and liberating it from the confines of carrier/manufacturer mandated hell. With that said the current Charge root method isn’t as easy as many of the 1-click deals we’ve seen populate the web. Add to that some old school, down and dirty command line action and you’ve got a task not meant for Android noobs. Nevertheless, you have to learn at some point, right?

Disclaimer: This particular method enables a permanent root and voids your warranty. If the warranty is something you hold near and dear, it’s best to watch this round from the sidelines. Android Authority has the how-to

New DROID Charge Update Promises Improved Battery Life And More!

  • June 13, 2011 7:06 am

Those still not happy with Samsung’s DROID Charge due to a list of minor issues here and there have another update en route. The upcoming EE4 update weighs in at 9.9 MB and includes numerous fixes and performance enhancements including improved battery life, email folder enhancements, improvements in mail and calendar sync, GPS improvements, improved call quality, as well as improving the detection of VZW’s 3G and 4G networks.

The battery life nod is interesting though never frowned upon. In our testing, the DROID Charge was one of the best Android phones — add to that LTE phones — in regards to battery life. With that said, we’ll never complain about increased runtime away from a charging station.

A new Qi-compliant inductive rear end for the DROID Charge is reportedly now selling for a mere $29.99. While Verizon’s site doesn’t specifically make any mention of official specs for this new fangled gadgetry, we’re going to go on the record and say real road warriors will only care about the wire-free lifestyle.

DROID Charge Launching May 14th For $299!

  • May 13, 2011 1:48 pm

The DROID Charge was originally supposed to launch on April 28th. Unfortunately, Verizon’s recent LTE network outage more or less caused VZW to delay said device. Thankfully we didn’t have to wait long, however, as the new launch date and price have been revealed.

Starting May 14th, interested parties can pick up the sexy Samsung DROID Charge for a cool $299 (w/ new 2-year contract). As Verizon’s second LTE phone, it has some large shoes to fill considering the HTC Thunderbolt is a pretty nice piece. Somehow we think the 1 GHz processor (single-core), 4.3″ Super AMOLED Plus display, and 8-megapixel camera will hold their own against HTC’s ‘wares. The 10-device hotspot support and LTE capabilities can’t hurt either. Who’s getting Charged?

DROID Charge Gets Official! Coming April 28th For $299.

  • April 21, 2011 12:44 pm

Today, Verizon and Samsung announced via a joint press release the shipping date and pricing for the DROID Charge — April 28th for $299. Features of this top-tier Android device include a single-core 1GHz processor, 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, Android 2.2, LTE, 8-megapixel rear/1-megapixel front-facing cameras, and your now standard assortment of memory, SD card support, etc., etc. Think $299 is a bit high for a “high-end” smartphone in 2011 that doesn’t feature a dual-core processor or the latest version of Android? Yeah, us too. But hey, options are options, right?

DROID Charge And Bionic Release Dates Leak.

  • April 18, 2011 1:31 pm

Lucky for us geeks, Verizon’s roadmaps aren’t exactly “well kept”. The latest leaked roadmap sheds light on a slew of upcoming handsets, most notably the DROID Charge and Bionic. The former is slated to hit the streets April 28th while the latter is rumored to have been cancelled in favor of a much more appetizing “Targa” handset. Nevertheless, if the Bionic does manage to escape impending death (and this roadmap is current/correct), look for it to hit retail markets on May 12th.

Having trouble keeping up yet?

Samsung Stealth Struts Around In Early Hands-on Photo.

  • March 10, 2011 6:34 am

The Android onslaught continues with these new pictures captured by TechnoBuffalo of the Samsung Stealth. Besides a unique design (that looks sort of like a fighter jet to us), a 4.3-inch AMOLED display, 1GHz Hummingbird processor, Android 2.2, 8-megapixel camera (rear)/1.3-megapixel camera (front), and 720p video recording support round up a decent mid to high-end range Android device. It’s worth noting that besides the “Samsung Stealth”, “Droid Charge” has been mentioned in conjunction with the same hardware as well — for what it’s worth.

The last remaining question is how will that LTE affect battery life. According to TechnoBuffalo’s early hands on, the Stealth handles such things like a champ. Though we’ll leave final judgement in the back room until we have a go at this little wonder ourselves. A couple more pictures from CES (Unwired) after the jump.

iFan, charge your iPhone, tangle your hair.

  • December 6, 2010 5:03 pm

The iFan: a revolutionary, magical device made famous by it’s multiple uses. One use being to greenly charge your iPhone. The other to rip out all of the hair on the side of your head. Well, only if you are stupid enough to think the wind will blow through it while it is next to your face. Either way - Magical!

The iFan was designed and created by Tjeerd Veenhoven. He must run into a lot of instances when he isn’t near an outlet, (or the cigarette outlet in his car) to need to design such a spectacular and magical piece of glory magic. How long does it take you to charge your iPhone using the power from your wall — mind you, not the computer, but the wall outlet? 30 minutes to 1 hour? It took this guy 6 hours to get a full charge with the wind. Now, these results are somewhat skewed. Wind speeds vary. And if you were a Storm Chaser, chances are your iPhone would charge a bit faster.

Created using a modified computer fan, Tjeerd was able to construct a sleek case to house it and the iDevice to allow for optimal wind blow charge power. As he states, holding the phone outside of your car window while driving could speed up the charge process, but we here at don’t recommend it. However, it may work wonders for those long sexy walks on the beach with your brand new love sweetheart, you can spark chemistry all while saving the planet!

Solar-powered USB charger

  • August 9, 2010 7:24 am

We’ve seen plenty of solar-powered chargers before. But this one is slightly more advanced than your typical sun sucking device life giver backer in that it features multiple USB ports. More ports + more potential power = happier geeks who venture far from outlets. Woo hoo all around, right? $22 seems pretty reasonable considering what you get.
