  • The PC case mod that looks nothing like a PC Case: Kratos PC Case mod.
    by Mike

Say that ten times fast... I'm into custom PC cases. Perhaps it's an obsession because I secretly or not so secretly lust for one greatly. Ya, that's probably it. Anyway, when I stumble across a unique PC case mod I feel like it's my duty to share it with you. Often times these cases aren't simply cases but works of art. This is most perfectly personified (literally) by the Kratos PC Case. While the internals are a mystery, we can clearly see what the outside is supposed to be. The...
  • Verizon again flubs iPhone/iPad deals? “Outbid” by AT&T to be “preferred” iPad carrier?
    by Mike

Try as they might, AT&T; has been unable to improve their image as of late. They blame Apple and the iPhone. Apple *doesn't* blame AT&T; outright, instead dancing around the issue with "we're happy of future network build out plans" verbiage that more or less means "We know they suck, hopefully they fix it". Outside of it all, Verizon has watched AT&T; enjoy record profits over the last couple of years after reportedly walking away from exclusive rights to the first gen iPhone. The rest as you ...
  • Nvidia bypassing 300 series cards, jumping straight into the 4’s with the GTX 470 and 480.

In any given field of commerce, a company will generally wring out every last dollar and marketing opportunity they can from a particular product before moving onto the next generation even if the product they're pushing is grossly old or outdated. In the digital/tech world, such things are often gut wrenching to endure as the technology realm isn't nearly as forgiving with age. Nvidia appears to eschew such thinking as is evident by their announcement concerning their new, upcoming graphics c...
  • Super massive Apple Event post: The iPad — starting at $499. [Pictures Galore!!]

The day has finally arrived folks. Apple has finally taken the wraps off of their Jesus Tablet, which has been given the name: "iPad". So is it cool enough to live up to the hype that has been literally saturating the internet for the last month? I'm not a tablet fan and even this has my interesting piqued. The iPad is the fruit of well over a year of labor between scores of Apple employees. It is easily the best tablet "computer" available on the market. And starting at $499 it will be im...
  • Overclockers reach 8.1999.5MHz with Celeron D347 processor. Self destruction immediately ensues.
    by Mike

Speed. Oh how we love pure, UI boosting speed. Back in the day, hearing of crazy overclocking events was a common thing. Now that most of the goals and awards have been doled out and upper limits reached, the scene has died down considerably. But that doesn't mean that no one is at least attempting any more. A ballsy overclocker by the name of TiN managed to push his Celeron D 347 up to 8.199.5MHz -- just a touch over 8GHz! To reach such stratospheric numbers, TiN made use of liquid nit...
  • Have we just seen the Apple Tablet? NOPE! [Fake]
    by Mike
    Posted January 26th, 2010 at 6:58 am
Why hello there beautiful. Is this...could it be...the Apple Tablet we've all been lusting and wishing over the last several weeks? It sure does look pretty legit, almost too legit. Sorry to burst your bubble, but it is too legit and in fact a fake -- a good fake at that. Don't believe me? I was a little skeptical myself of the tablet and Macbook's sheen and shine of the logo. After a brief search online, I not only found others sharing my suspicion (Jeremy from LiveDigitally) but also s...
  • Apple tablet indirectly confirmed by Gawker Media C&D compliments of Apple!

An Apple tablet has been rumored for many years. So much so that any new claimed information on such a product got to a point of becoming a joke. This past year however, the momentum has built from month to month as rumor after rumor leaks from the various cracks of the gadget loving society. How are they different from rumors of years past? For starters, they are from more reliable sources (at least the bloggers and journalists or publish the information claim them to be) and are actually b...
  • [CES] MinWin: Computer hardware, military grade 2.5″ external hard drive.
    by Mike
    Posted January 6th, 2010 at 8:48 pm
In the world of high end gaming and custom rigs, the general public always sees the higher-end Dell, Gateway, Asus, Alienware, etc. A rather unknown yet experienced custom computer manufacturer, "MinWin", has quite the collection of gadgets to entice. The first juicy tidbit is their military grade 2.5" USB 2.0 external hard drive. With USB 3.0 now on the verge of going mainstream, why go 2.0? Well, this particular USB 2.0 drive features shock protection -- up to 200 meters. Yes that's...
  • 7″ Apple tablet coming in January “For Sure”…

The world may be ripe with 10" Apple tablet rumors, but as they old saying goes: "What is popular isn't always right". Ok, so it's not the best fit for the saying but it's all I've got -- hey, the holiday break has already manifested itself many times over inside my head...I went on vacation days ago. With that said, an "extremely accurate and reliable" source of BGR's has come forth saying there is a 100% chance of a 7" Apple tablet. The often bragged about 10 incher however is claimed t...
  • The Notion Ink tablet: Best looking Android tablet yet?
    by Mike
    Posted December 18th, 2009 at 7:41 am
What's your take on tablet computers? I'm not head over heels for them per say as I either want a beast of a laptop or a beast of a phone. Tablets are in that gray/middle area that are just "meh" for me. But I'm but one man. Of all the tablets I've seen so far, the one pictured above set to drop compliments of Notion Ink is the closest I've come to actually wanting a tablet yet. The physical design is slick. HD 1080p video playback is a go as is A-GPS and a 3.0 megapixel camera. For stora...
  • Touch screen computers go now ready for 32-digit input thanks to “dreaMTouch”

I don't personally own an HP TouchSmart PC. I've used one though and came away overall impressed. It's a nifty idea though not one I'd want to make use of daily. Some things I just prefer to do with an old fashioned mouse and keyboard, joystick sometimes makes grand appearance. The real problem with the TouchSmart is that it only senses up to two fingers. The reason behind such woes stem from the sheer size of the display which forced HP to rely on older optical sensor based technology for ...
  • Watch Blu-rays and play your Xbox 360/PS3 on the new 27″ iMac
    by Mike
    Posted December 15th, 2009 at 4:08 pm
Increasing reports of broken, defective, and all out f'd up 27" iMac display problems aside, sometimes we just want to use that 2560 x 1440 of super hi-def goodness for things other than your typical computing needs. For starters, Blu-ray on such a screen would be a great start. Don't have a hi-def TV or are tired of looking at two different screens -- one for TV one for computing? Thankfully Apogee will soon be debuting their own HDMI to mDP adapter that will allow you oh so lucky 27" iMac u...
  • Modern Philco PC makes big bubbly tech cool again.
    by Mike
    Posted December 14th, 2009 at 9:48 am
In many different hobbies and areas of society, retro is all the rage. Clothing is one such market in which old styles are constantly reborn and revamped, presented as new once again. However, in regards to technology, old tech isn't exactly "cool" again. I don't know about you but when I see an old room-sized computer in old books, I don't think "Gee, I wish I could have one of those in my room". Heck, I wouldn't even want to have a modern computer look like one. They're big, boxy, and ugl...
  • Core i5/i7 (Arrandale) processors to grace MBP’s come early 2010?
    by Mike

Those with itchy trigger/mouse fingers longing to order a new top-o-the-line Macbook Pro need to get control of themselves and holster their weapons for a brighter horizon is upon us. Would you be so eager to drop 2-3 large on a MBP knowing that Arrandale (read: Core i5/i7) processors are just around the corner from release, bringing a new generation of speed and power in the smallest most energy efficient package yet? Hmm, worded like that, even the king edition of a MBP somehow loses a bit o...
  • Apple tablet delayed because of OLED screen?
    by Mike
    Posted November 19th, 2009 at 7:16 am
You can't technically label a gadget delayed until it's had a release date announced -- or at least been announced at all. With that said, many analysts and tech reporters were pegging a March-ish release date for the wonder tablet (a.k.a. "The Apple Tablet"). THe original goal was to keep costs down and quality high. According to a new report and by comments from DigiTimes, Apple has decided to go for both quality and price. For the quality side of things, they have decided that they will c...

Even if your Christmas tree is a bit sparse and your holiday meal is a microwave dinner delight, you can rest assured that you won't lose any sleep over any of Apple's pricing this fine Black Friday. If a leaked poster is to be believed, Black Friday 2009 will be quite a winner for Apple with a rather rare showcasing of generosity by the Cupertino giant. The supposed discounts as they appear: Up to 15% off of all accessories, hardware, and software Up to 25% off of all Macs (Hello 27" Core i...
  • Cray XT5 supercomputer becomes world’s fastest thanks to upgrade — 1.75 petaflops/sec

Take your current desktop screamer and go for a stroll outside on a bone chilling mid-January mid-west winter. Take your prised rig and drop it in the freshly fallen snow and dump molasses all over it. When you're done, poor water all over the mass of mess and fire up the leave blower. Got a nice vivid picture yet? That's roughly the speed of your computer compared to the current champ -- the Cray XT5 Super Computer. You may recognize the name as it isn't a new development but instead an ...
