  • Coming to a galaxy near you: The Snow Droid
    by Mike
    Posted January 12th, 2010 at 8:45 am
No, this isn't some new scheme from Verizon to milk you for more dollars with a new snow white Moto DROID color option. The Snow Droid is a tad more cheery. Quite simply, it's a replica R2-D2 snowman droid. In the colder regions of the planet (read: most of the US...that means you Floridians too), snow has been falling in a bizarre showcase of unusual cold sweeping the US. So if you find yourself in one of these unusually cold climates or are a cold weather native, make this year the yea...
  • Augmented Reality finds new home in Japanese vending machines.

You know, with each and every "far out there" or geeky invention I see come forth from the great island way out east, I find myself second guessing my decision of staying here in the states. Of course, I don't have too many options at the moment, finishing school and all. But nothing can quite compare to the uniquely weird things that Japan's greatest minds put forth. Case in point: AR equipped vending machines. If you though AR was just for mobile devices and happened to stroll by one of cu...
  • Geekify your house with USB wall outlets.

I love gadgets. Could you tell? With a vast amount of gadgets comes a lot of chargers and cords to keep track of. And believe me, I've got a lot of gadgets. Sometimes finding a computer or one of those nifty wall converters that turns a standard wall outlet into a normal USB port just can't be done. So there you are starring at two completely capable and electrically charged holes in the wall yet no way to harness the energy. If you're like me, spending a couple hours swapping out your stan...
  • LED Tattoos the way of the future?
    by Mike
    Posted November 12th, 2009 at 11:12 am
Tattoos haven't changed much over the decades. It's still essentially the same basic concept: A needle moving in and our of your skin with some sort of ink or dye on the tip. Other forms of body modifications such as piercings and implanting metallic objects ahve added a twist to the whole process, but a "tattoo" is still the same. Rebels and body artists of tomorrow will find LED tattoos the next big craze. The idea may seem crazy at first, but it's really not that complex. Simple sil...

Can you believe that just a few years ago, a "cool" ringtone was one of those polyphonic pieces of garbage? Hey, I can't poke too much fun as even I at one point was captivated by this chorus of simple notes strung together (my how we've come so far...). These days, making your own ringtones can come from any number of sources. With Apple's iPhone being the force to be reckoned with in the consumer smartphone market, customizing said gadget with your own personal flare is pretty desirable. U...
  • Ride in style: The Pac-Man Car
    by Mike
    Posted November 2nd, 2009 at 6:54 am
When riding in the Pac-Man car, try not to ram other colored cars in hopes of eating them with your grill. While in Pac-Man/video game world, such moves are encouraged and aid in the advancement of Pac-Man, in reality world with modern physics and such, doing so is likely to result in multiple headaches for you. The individual who created the Pac-Man car shown above definitely went all out. Every square inch of this car is in some form or another Pac-Man-ized. I'd drive it down the road wo...
  • Ceiling mounted water faucet turns heads, drops water.
    by Mike
    Posted October 27th, 2009 at 3:28 pm
Upon first look, this metal shaft descending from the ceiling may may seem like the perfect accessory to a night full of fun at "the bachelor pad". Capped off with pizza, beer, and a few female companions, who would say no? But this isn't any normal female companion pole. (Plus, I cringe at the thought of some woman jumping all over this thing only to have it rip from the ceiling, showing the spectators in vast amounts of plaster, drywall, paint dust, plumbing, water -- pretty much everything...
  • VHS Mailbox: Go ahead…Stick it in.
    by Mike
    Posted October 19th, 2009 at 8:07 am
DIY projects and geeky home touches are a dime a dozen. For every ten cool ideas that float by, one is truly unique, drawing a smile to my face and a moment of pondering. The VHS Mailbox is just that. An idea that seems so simple and makes so much sense should have come around sooner. Now that I've seen it, I'm not wasting any time. Bargain basement walmart VHS're mine... Gizmodo > Obsolete > There I Fixed It...
  • Exploding/Pacman house wows north eastern Englanders
    by Mike
    Posted September 17th, 2009 at 5:43 am
Cool effects, projection tricks, and 3D are a staple part of any geeks diet. The fine folks above staring at this seemingly inconspicuous house are having a grand 'ol time. Some very rich people had a small get together showcasing someone's talent for 3D projection tricks. The results are actually pretty darn neat. Hop on in for another picture showing what is supposed to be an "exploded house" and a video of the good stuff in action. (more...)...
  • Let other drivers know how you really feel without lifing a finger…kinda…
    by Mike
    Posted July 17th, 2009 at 6:31 am
If you've ever driven a car, chances are you've encountered those people which shouldn't be driving...let alone have a license. Their displays of stupidity and utter lack of any road manners makes you so angry you could beat them with a crow bar. Violent? Maybe. Needed? Most likely. Usually we humans rely on our ancestors' language when communicating across lanes to signal to other drivers how we really feel. But why take out hands off the wheel and our texting? Why not let another gad...
  • Coolest Calendar Ever: The Ink Calendar
    by Mike
    Posted July 17th, 2009 at 6:15 am
Take all of your other novelty calendars and even functional calendars and throw them in the trash because that is exactly what they are when compared to the world's coolest calendar, the Ink Calendar. Designed by forward thinking Spanish designer Oscar Diaz, the Ink Calendar brings a whole new level of innovation and sophistication to an otherwise mundane project and duty. The gist behind this time teller is the ability to display the date with nothing but a bottle of ink and 28-31 paper ma...
