  • Got a cool grand to spill? Westone has your ‘phones.
    by Mike
    Posted June 8th, 2010 at 4:27 pm
I'm no stranger to dishing out more money than I'd care to reveal on headphones. I think at one point I was up to eight or nine pairs spanning pretty much any style you could imagine. I've since honed in on my style per say, and have whittled that number down to three. Though if I were in the market, Westone has quite the pair of 'phones that is new to their repertoire -- the $950 Westone ES5 Custom. To most, spending nearly a grand on headphones is ridiculous and cause for concern over on...
  • Packin’ the *affordable* heat: MainGear introduces the Phenom X6 powered VYBE

Looking for pure, blinding speed but don't have a grand to sink on Intel's latest and greatest I7 980X? You're in luck. Today, AMD officially took of the wraps of their new Phenom X6 processors clocked at 2.8GHz and 3.2GHz (1055T and 1095T respectively). While not the fastest processor around, it's definitely the strongest competition from AMD we've seen in many, many months. Not to mention, at under $300 for a top of the line AMD 6-core processor, it's more than "a steal" when compared to I...
  • Soon to be available Phase Change Memory promises 300x write performance/10x write endurance. (We want it now)

Want a faster compupter? I mean, really faster? Usually we'd look at the processor (for multitaskers) or GPU (for gamers). The speed of RAM doesn't return very much "bang for your buck" speed in most of life's situations. That 2,000MHz+ RAM is more or less for bragging rights in all but the most extreme cases. (more...)...

Yes folks, it's time for another somewhat-crazy-though-not-so-crazy-when-you-think-about-it-and-actually-kind-of-useful gadget. Today, we're looking at the Orange Amps All In One Computer Amplifier Speaker made by, Orange Amps. This odd looking contraption is actually a fully working guitar amp and computer all-in-one. (Ok, I'm done with all the "-" nonsense...) (more...)...
  • Can’t find the right computer case? Turn that empty desk draw/cabinet into something suitable. [Mod]
    by Mike
    Posted April 9th, 2010 at 10:29 pm
There have been plenty of computer case mods that mimic desks or are built straight into desks entirely. This particular computer case/computer desk mod by Overclock.net forum member "MoonPig" just so happens to be one of the neater and cleaner mods that have drifted by my eyes. Inside the inconspicuous looking desk, the usual assortment of computer parts and wiring is visible. The real part that gets me however is the view from above -- a nice, big skylight to look down onto all the PC geeke...
  • Racing Sim geeks, this is what you need…[Mod]
    by Mike
    Posted April 2nd, 2010 at 10:03 am
Back in the day of video game benchmarks and goals being measured in "bits", a true racing sim involved at most a monstrous TV, racing sim of choice, and a comfy chair. Thankfully we've made some decent progress since those days. Today's racing sim geek generally has multiple monitors, racing "seat" that is actually a cage more or less, replicating the interior of a real car, and of course steering wheel and pedals. But even then, those are all fake parts made to mimic a real car. What if yo...
  • Bathe your iPod in soft cotton, plastic, and LED lighting.
    by Mike
    Posted February 9th, 2010 at 10:44 pm
The iPod by far has the largest selection of accessories of any major gadget. Anything from simple silicon cases to little "iPad Beanbag chairs" show that the whole accessory market has gotten out of control. Out of control in the sense that more and more accessories are being pumped out, with few of the multitude of accessories actually being any good. Besides, if you're going to go cheap, why not just build you own case? The fine folks at Instructables have a nifty little how-to on making...
  • In the world of custom ROM’s, developer involvement, and the overall embetterment of the world, Motorola gets an F.
    by Mike
    Posted February 3rd, 2010 at 11:37 pm
Looking at the title, I make a pretty big assumption. From the get go I'm basically calling out Motorola for whippin' up a nice in-house fail whale of their own. But a fail whale to what? Android. The Motorola DROID was and still is the best Android device (hell, the best phone period) to come from Moto in a long, long time. So how are they failing? The US variant of the Moto Sholes is the Verizon DROID. For the last several months, I've been monitoring AllDroid, the DROID forums in par...
  • The street legal bumper car: Child’s greatest dream come true.
    by Mike
    Posted January 29th, 2010 at 2:21 pm
Do you remember back to the days of when you were a kid? Were you fortunate enough to be close enough to a local carnival or fair so you can experience the thrill of bumper cars at least once? For most of us who ventured into such areas as kids, bumper cars held some kind of weird fascination in our little minds. Hell, even to this day I'm still obsessed with bumper cars when I go to local fairs. It never changes really. With that said, what would you do if you saw someone cruising around i...
  • So thin is in….? Meet the LG Serie 1: 4:3 cathrode-ray tube goodness.
    by Mike
    Posted January 25th, 2010 at 7:17 am
CES 2010: Samsung unveils gorgeous looking LED LCD TV's no thicker than a pencil and a slew of TV manufacturers make the move to 3D. LG: we introduce to you the Serie 1, a 4:3 "retro-TV" complete with big boxy design and cathrode-ray tube picture that is also very "3D". Uh-oh. Has LG lost their minds? No, not really. Joking aside, this little retro-gem from LG is actually pretty sweet looking (physically) even if the picture won't be worth much. And to all of those bragging of their new ag...
