  • T-Mobile not wasting any time…pushing 1.6 update out now. [Update]
    by Mike
    Posted October 1st, 2009 at 5:48 am
Well that was fast. Just a mere day or two ago we wrote about Android developer units getting builds of 1.6 (Donut) and that if all went well a public release would follow soon after. I didn't realize they meant that soon after. Early adopters (that means you G1 owners), or more importantly, "select G1's" will get the 1.6 update pushed to them sometime today with the newer, more touchy feely brother (MyTouch) having to wait another 24hrs. or so. The staggered rollout will give TMO some contr...
  • Satellite/Cellular Hybrid phone coming to AT&T
    by Mike
    Posted September 30th, 2009 at 12:25 pm
Want to make a call or send a text but can't because your normal AT&T; phone keeps dropping calls? *Soon* you'll be able to look no further than the Genus. A love child created between new found partners TeraStar and AT&T; are aimed at bringing expanded coverage to remote areas via satellite. The handset will allow users to "seamlessly" switch between satellite and cellular networks without hiccup. While the Genus is being marketed towards more government and utility companies, AT&T; and TeraSt...
  • iPhone users love their phone, HATE the network. *Shocker*

I've complained about AT&T;'s performance enough for several people. And apparently my feelings of ill will and malice aren't alone as a recent study conducted by CFI Group which polled over 1,000 AT&T; iPhone users on their device and network. The first test point centered around the users perception of owning their ideal phone. No surprise here. The iPhone scored a 92% rate here -- top of the class. Trailing further behind, Android and Pre users rang in at 77%, BlackBerry (73%), Treo (70%...

  • T-Mo 3G rollout continues…

Lovers of the speedy wireless spectrum that belongs to T-Mobile U.S.A. have some new breathing room and grasslands to stretch their legs on. Specifically, T-Mobile customers in Columbia, Durham, Greensboro, Raleigh, and Winston-Salem, N.C. as well as Greenville, S.C., and Escondido and Oceanside, CA should be noticing greatly improved browsing speeds as well as a nifty "3G"/"H"/"U" symbol on their phone's display signifying the up tick in speeds. Even though they're a bit late to the game, it ...
  • iPhone MMS update: West Coast - late morning. East Coast — early afternoon.
    by Mike
    Posted September 24th, 2009 at 5:09 am
While many of you who truly wanted and already activated MMS on your iPhones can disregard this message, for the vast numbers who haven't, AT&T; has gone ahead and shed light on the exact time at which you can download the carrier update file through iTunes to enable said feature. It looks like the party-like-it's-2002 halapalooza is going down "late morning" for you west coasters meaning east coasters will be well into their "early afternoon" time frame. iPhone 3G/3GS users will soon be able t...
  • T-Mobile’s 4G plans getting a littler Clearer…
    by Mike
    Posted September 23rd, 2009 at 6:51 am
The back and forth movement of T-Mobile USA's statements in regards to their 4G plans is enough to give most people whiplash. First they're holding off, instead employing HSPA+ as a nice speed bump along the way. Next minute they're (their parent company, Deutsche Telekom more precisely) making deals to light 4G services with Clearwire and Metro PCS. Clearwire whom has been cited saying that they needed more money to continue the rollout of 4G services, would have most of their current mone...
  • Palm Pre coming to O2 Germany October/November? [Update: October 13th-16th]
    by Mike
    Posted September 22nd, 2009 at 9:42 am
Palm's Jesus phone, the Palm Pre may soon be coming to O2 Germany if various sources are to be believed. According to nimsso from PreCentral, after receiving a Palm Pre promotional email he decided to call up O2 and inquire further. After talking to an O2 rep, he was advised to call back in 2 weeks at which point he could follow through with a pre-order (no pun intended). If you take into account two weeks starting today and then add another week or three for pre-order waiting, we're lookin...
  • AT&T just doesn’t get it: Double/Triple charging you for their problems.

After seeing countless posts today about AT&T;'s new MicroCells, I can't help but reply to everyone who thinks these are God's gift from Big Blue. THEY'RE NOT! To many, AT&T;'s announcement and release of MicroCells, or little router like contraptions that increase cellular reception (it's AT&T...stop; kidding yourself...they give you reception) inside your humble abode are a blessing bringing a much needed improvement in reception, or reception to a location that before hand didn't have any sign...
  • T-Mobile UK raises roaming rates 50%
    by Mike
    Posted September 21st, 2009 at 9:17 am
If you so choose to communicate with the world through a partnership with T-Mobile UK and just so happen to roam more than your average human, you may want to cash out on your 401K or other retirement savings just to make phone calls. Starting October 26th, T-Mobile UK is raising the price on roaming prices upwards of 50% to pretty much every country you can think of. Highway robbery I say. If you were looking to get out of your contract early you're probably out of luck as T-Mo is giving y...
  • 662,258 text messages in one month? Get real.
    by Mike
    Posted September 21st, 2009 at 6:17 am
You may have stumbled across an article last week by TUAW that highlighted an iPhone 3GS user's ("Lgvoyagerguy") massive 13,000 page AT&T; phone bill. The reason for the Amazon execution was the seemingly impossible "record" of 662,258 text messages being ONE month. We all know how AT&T; loves to save paper. However, looking at the numbers in greater detail, that 662,258 text messages in one month breaks down to roughly 22,075 per day which breaks down to ~15-16 text messages per mi...
