Droid 1 users rejoice, for Verizon is artifically limiting your hardware with the official Froyo 2.2 update. On the heels of Droid 1 "official" Froyo update information, it's come to light that two very popular features -- Tethering and mobile WiFi hotspot -- won't be making it. The former supposedly isn't doable because "there isn't a connection on the PC side that will enable tethering (WTF?) while the latter has been chocked up to "lack of hardware" (read: power) by a Verizon Wireless spoke...
  • Samsung makes Galaxy S promises for “late September”.

    Posted July 30th, 2010 at 8:26 am
You may recall Samsung having a bit of a customer backlash on their hands several months back after they backed out of plans to push out future updates to the Samsung Behold II. It was a dick move for sure, and one that left a bad taste in many Samsung users' mouths. But there's always time for a second chance, right? Sammy's latest hit, the Galaxy S, has seen a version go to (or is going to soon) version each of the 4 major US wireless carriers. In terms of getting your name and product o...

If the wait for official DROID 2 announcements and images is starting to get to you, you're in luck. Droid-Life has scored the official DROID 2 owners manual for the world to partake. Not wasting any time, it's evident that the re-worked Moto BLUR that is featured on the DROID X is front and center, as are the Swype and multi-touch keyboards, and yes -- Froyo! Speaking of that multi-touch keyboard, I'm hoping some talented dev can rip it out and port it over to the D1. To the best of my ...
  • Milestone gets FRF91 Froyo! (Unofficially)

Motorola doesn't really care about the Milestone or its users anymore. So what? When has a manufacturers whims and wishes affected the hearts and minds of the talented hacking community? That's right -- never. While Moto sits around twiddling their thumbs wondering if they'll grace the Milestone with aging Android software, the dev community has taken the issue to heart and delivered fantastic results once again. The Milestone haz Froyo! Proceed with caution, however. The process isn't ...
  • Android Wednesday: Samsung YP-MB2, New LivePrints Live Wallpaper, and new Froyo doubts on Milestone

First up -- the Samsung YP-MB2. You can't really tell much by blurry photo above, but if the few rumors that are floating around are to be believed, we're looking at a Samsung Galaxy S sans phone capabilities. Basically, it's an Apple-isque iPhone-to-iPod Touch type of deal. The YP-MB2 will feature the same 1GHz Hummingbird processor, Android 2.1, 4" Super AMOLED display, WiFI, DMB, GPS, 3MP camera, and of course, access to the Android Market that the Galaxy S phone variants enjoy. I for one...

If Android's vanilla wrapping is getting a bit long in the tooth for you, there's plenty of options to be had via the Android Market or even one of many, many Android forums. Customization is one of Android's strong suits. But what if you wanted Samsung's TouchWiz3 up and running on your Eclair or Froyo device? Why yes, you can now have that too. Best get a jump on it before Samsung get's all Cease and Desisty over it... [TouchWiz for Froyo (and Eclair)] (more...)...
  • HTC to finish 2.2/Froyo rollout “by this Christmas”
    by Mike
    Posted July 6th, 2010 at 5:28 pm
...Not exactly promising words if you ask me. With Android 3.0 (Gingerbread) looking at an October-November release date, getting all giddy about Froyo, even as great as it is, seems like a long stretch. Still, something's better than nothing. And, to date, HTC has at least kept their upgrade promises better than others (Samsung, I'm looking at you and disgruntled Behold II owners). Either way, I stand back and look at the bigger picture. I'm really interested in the HTC Vision. And if...

It's been but a few hours and already devs are releasing updated ROMs for the Moto Droid based on the fresh-out-of-the-oven Froyo FRF84B package that made itself known earlier this morning. This particular ROM comes from "Pete", developer behind the popular "Bugless Beast" series. The latest release, 0.4 FRF84B comes fully zip aligned, de-odexed, and chock full of Pete's usual allotment of enhancements such as 50MB of system memory always free, auto-overclocking (negating the need for setCPU...

And the Android news keeps on a flowin'. Let's get right to it: Droid X. It's arguably the hottest Android device on the market right now with it's 4.3-inch 854 x 480 display. And now, thanks to Verizon's Droid X coming out party, we know the full shebang. And here we go: Android 2.1 (Froyo/2.2 available as an update later this summer), new skin atop Android, 1GHz TI OMAP3640 processor, 8-megapixel camera w/ dual LED-flash and 720p video recording, 8GB of onboard storage w/ support for up...

If you're an Android junkie looking for a little Froyo love, today is a big day. At the Droid X event, Google's Andy Rubin just announced that the Froyo source has finally been finalized and released to the masses -- HTC, Moto, normal commoners like you and I...everyone. Of course, now we start another waiting game as carriers have to put Froyo through their own tests. Rooted Android users will benefit sooner however, as turnaround on a new Android version usually sees a fairly stable ROM...
