  • DTV madness to be trumped by “all-IP phone transition”

Oh god, I can see it now -- madness in the streets when when the FCC publicly announces a plan to move over the entire countries ancient switch based phone network to an all IP network model. If you thought you had seen confusion and the highest amount of confusion spewed forth, boy are you in for a treat. It will inevitably happen though. In the U.S., telephone providers have been trying in recent years to move people over to VoIP services with AT&T; being amongst the top in this area. Still...
  • Email to be extinct in 10 years? Eh, probably not.

While looking forward to the future, it's always fun to think about what is "hot" now and how it will undergo the usual tech transformation into old, outdated, and dead technology. The telephone used to be an amazing wonderment of scientific engineering. Now it's nothing special. Much the same, email was at one point the pinnacle of technological achievement. Today everyone including their grandma and maybe even her dog have at least one email address. So what type of lifespan or useful tim...

Oh the happiness that is flowing through my veins... While I am more than ecstatic with my new Moto Droid, the one thing I want that it doesn't currently offer is Facebook Chat. I'm sure many social butterflies in Android land feel the same. Well, there's some good news. Ok, being new to the Android scene I made a newbie mistake. Facebook Chat is supported with Meebo. I've been using Meebo since yesterday on my Droid and like it overall. It could use some tweaking for the Droid's highe...

    by Mike
    Posted October 9th, 2009 at 7:11 am
Ok folks, say goodbye to having to pay double on cellphone bills. Well, at least if your texting buddies all have iPhones that is. Introducing Ping! (iTunes Link) for iPhone. Ping! is an iPhone-to-iPhone messaging app available in the App Store for $0.99. It operates much like BlackBerry Messenger does for BlackBerry -- letting you message for free between BlackBerry to BlackBerry and in this case, iPhone to iPhone. The way it works is also very BlackBerry Messenger-esque as it issues each ...

While the more technically inclined and those who are close friends with lady luck already have BlackBerry Messenger 5.0, the rest of us will find tomorrow, October 7th as the day we have been anxiously awaiting for so long. Tomorrow is the day that RIM will take the shroud off of BBM 5.0 and release it to the masses. A slew of performance tweaks, UI adjustments, and added features are coming your way. The new goods packed inside are well known by now, all that's left is thumb twaddling and w...
  • Latest refresh of BB Messenger finally looks good, brings RIM chatting into 2004
    by Mike
    Posted June 13th, 2009 at 1:07 pm
While it may seem like I'm knocking the latest BlackBerry messenger and the leaked screenshots, take note that I'm not. The new BB Messenger is awesome! Finally, some moderate eye candy coming to the BlackBerry messaging powerhouse. A short list of updates include avatar support, GPS based location sharing (can toggle on/off), proximity sensor, conversation subjects, homescreen support (add BBM friends/conversations to homescreen as a quick launch icon). For the full boat of pictures, st...

While WWDC is still an entire week into the future, anxious developers simply can't contain their excitement and products much longer.  While background push has been a highly talked about potential feature on one of if not the most popular iPhone IM applications, BeeJive, it appears that next week we will finally see the release of background push notifications and get the much requested feature.  As far as other features or even information regarding potential fees from BeeJive 2.x to 3....
  • Meebo adds MySpace IM and Facebook Chat support!
    by Mike
    Posted January 5th, 2009 at 8:09 am
Meebo, a popular ad supported multi IM client has officially added MySpace IM and Facebook Chat to the list of supported services.  The two new services while not exactly hot items, are a nice added bonus.  Not having to actually be on Facebook or MySpace but still having the ability to chat with said users makes life a little easier.  Of course, in this day and age where just about everyone has a cell phone and use texting, the draw for desktop based chatting just doesn't seem as exciti...

[caption id="attachment_166" align="aligncenter" width="210" caption="BeejiveIM"][/caption] IM+ and can officially call it quits and bow to the supreme! BeejiveIM is officially out for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Coming from the Blackberry world, I used and loved Beejive (formerly Jivetalk) for everything...including sending text messages to keep my text message plan down. It was by far the best muli-IM client for Blackberry. And now the best has come to iPhone. So far every m...
