GameStop Begins Acception iDevice Trade-ins. May Start Selling The Entire Line Up.

  • September 6, 2011 11:29 am

GameStop may be jumping on the bandwagon of iOS retailers and offering the entire line up of Apple’s magical devices. At an annual trade show in Las Vegas, it was announced that the gaming retail giant will begin offering the devices for sale and to top it off they have also started accepting your used iOS devices for trade-ins for in store credits.

This along with all of the iPhone 5 release rumors and the wide demand for all iOS devices, having another retailer carry the devices only makes sense. It fits for GameStop to join with the ever growing hand held gaming devices around. There is no word on what devices they’ll carry, and we also aren’t sure if they’ll become a re-seller as well of the used trade-ins(we’d assume so, as they sell re-furbed consoles) but we are interested in seeing what they’ll have!

Swoon: Arcade Joystick To Partner ‘Atari’s Greatest Hits’ iOS App

  • September 6, 2011 10:51 am

Hopefully those of you who are old enough to remember the 70′s to early 80′s gaming revolution, remember a special little peripheral - the Atari Joystick. No matter how many consoles are released, the controller pads are pretty much the same old thing. Yes we have added slightly more comfortable areas to hold or even created a wand like piece to swing about in your living room. But that pesky joystick has been there since the beginning. Some have tried to create a joystick add-on for their consoles, but nothing has mirrored the pure innocence and simplicity of this magnificent device.

Anyways, nostalgia aside - Atari is at it again! With hand held gaming a huge push for developers, iOS being a huge drive for the generation, Discovery Bay Games has decided to add on to the incredible iOS release - Atari’s Greatest Hits. I have this game on my iPhone, and even with the smaller screen, the game is quite fun. Now if I had an iPad and this peripheral for it I would be in heaven - magical gaming heaven. The joystick hasn’t actually been announced, but was uncovered in the last update for the iOS game linking it to Discovery Bay Games Duo Controller.

The website gives no price, only gives an Available Soon, not really giving us much information. But the peripheral works with your iPad/iPad 2 and will give you the upper hand against those pesky Asteroids. We’ll update you on when this incredible device is available, and maybe, just maybe, if we can come by another iPad to review, we’ll be able to review this joystick, and by review I do mean play for hours and piss off our wives.

Rumor: Best Buy Memo Puts iPhone 5 Pre-Orders This Week - iPhone In October

  • September 4, 2011 7:25 pm

Well, as Mikey posted earlier today about Best Buy Managers being called in to be in store for an Apple fixture being constructed and displayed on Oct 21st, we are now seeing more Best Buy leaks claiming that the Big Box locations will begin taking pre-orders of Apples newest baby this week and putting it in our hands the first week of October. This leaked memo also adds fuel to the Sprint iPhone release as well, making them the 3rd carrier to have the iPhone in it’s arsenal.

Rumors have been flowing out of the mill around the launch being in late September / early October, does this confirm it? Best Buy does state that Apple product launch dates are subject to change.

You readers think we’ll be seeing the iPhone rocking the Sprint logo? Will Apple announce the iPhone this month? Rumors won’t stop funneling through our fingers, but as always, they are just rumors.

Calling Him A Genius Is Somewhat Ironic - Lulz @ Apple

  • September 1, 2011 9:40 pm

I’m pretty sure everyone out there has stepped foot into an Apple Store at some point in time. No matter how you feel about the company and Their products, you’ve probably done it. Even if you haven’t, you’ve walked by a retail spot in a Mall, or on a busy street. Whether walking by or stepping a foot inside, you’ll be bombarded by the employees. If you make it far enough in, you’ll see a spot where you’d think they’d be making drinks at. Nope. This is the home for the “Genius” livestock. This latest story really lets their smarts shine through.

If you remember almost a year ago, or if you read any tech blog lately, Apple once lost an iPhone 4 prototype. Careless, stupid, lollerskates - for sure. If you were anywhere near the internets, minus here as I’ve come to find out, you would have probably read about a possible iPhone 5 prototype leak. Yes, when Apple employees get to drinking, they leave their highly secretive iPhone prototypes lying around at bars. But what about the retail location people, they aren’t drinking - or are they!

Our newest Apple Lawl comes straight from a blue shirt wearing Genius! A CultofMac reader happened to wander in to his local Apple store to get some much needed help. Was told his HDD was crappola, and advised him to head on back later. When showing up to pick up his magical device, the good ol (read: slow) genius handed him a harddrive.

Oh boy, what did he find!!! Hop on in to find out!

New iPhone 5 Renderings Inspired from Photostream Beta “Leak”

  • September 1, 2011 9:04 pm

Remember yesterday, a normal Wednesday, nothing major, then…BAM!!!! Another iPhone 5 rumor/leak!!! I know, we can’t get enough. Here is another rendering for you, this one based off of the possible leak from that Photstream Beta image. 9to5Mac has released renderings of this latest device but is also stating that this could possibly be the icon for the smaller 4s[ish] device that Apple will offer as the ‘lower end‘ model.

We’ve received word that of the two new iPhones coming out from Apple, this device might actually be the smaller, cheaper iPhone that is set for release at the same time. To that end, we’ve got a mock up of what something like that would look like using current iPhone sizes, and the dimensions offered up by the icon (above) if it is a smaller device…

Jump on in if you’d like to see the possible rendering if we were to see the same sort of specs, but as a bigger device - actual iPhone 5.

Devote Apple Follower Runs 13-Mile Apple Shaped Route Through Tokyo In Honor Of Steve Jobs.

  • August 28, 2011 11:04 pm

You may claim to love Apple but do you really mean it? One appreciative digital media producer by the name of Joseph Tame took to the streets of downtown Tokyo with his running shoes and two iPhones to map out a 13-mile, Apple-shaped route. The trip took Tame just shy of 2 hours and cost ~ 1,724 calories.

In his blog post, Joseph goes on to say how much Steve’s visionary creation (in this case the iPhone) has helped him get through life over the last few years, and that he wishes Steve (and Apple) the best in the years to come.

It’s for this that I’d like to personally show my appreciation to Steve for his vision and leadership, which has made a direct positive impact upon my life. His work has also served to revolutionise the mobile phone industry, something that was desperately needed here more than anywhere. I’d like to wish Steve all the best, and hope that his health improves fast now he’s able to focus more on getting well again.

How do you top that?

Jailbreak Developers Getting Bored, Throwing In The Towel?

  • August 26, 2011 12:11 pm

Yesterday it was jailbreak developer “Comex” that stunned quite a few by announcing his new upcoming internship at Apple. For someone who has spent so many years “on the run” from the very same company, it’s pretty amusing to see the tides turn. As for his jailbreak activities, we can’t see Comex continuing too much longer given his new employer’s past views on the practice of jailbreaking.

Today another iOS jailbreak dev sheds doubt on his own future. @chpwn has mentioned via Twitter that while he’s not joining Apple — a reply jokingly directed at some who have been vocalizing worries regarding future jailbreak efforts — he’s also getting bored (presumably with iOS/jailbreaking) and may not continue doing it much longer.

“I’m not joining Apple, but I’m also bored and probably not going to do much more jailbreak stuff. Probably.”

We’re not too worried at the moment. Chpwn’s statement is far from final. Not to mention, someone will rise up through the ranks and take over the jailbreak developer’s limelight. Worried?

Latest Sn0wbreeze Update Allows iOS 5 Beta Installs Without Dev Account, Removes Expiration Timer.

  • August 18, 2011 9:16 am

Fancy a seat in the world of exclusive iOS 5 beta users but don’t have (or have a friend with) a developer account? There’s been a couple of workarounds so far. They’re not entirely seamless or easy. But the latest sn0wbreeze 2.8 update looks to make things a bit easier as the two biggest new features remove the UDID check to allow non-devs to install iOS beta as well as removing the timer that causes different betas to expire. In addition to all of that, sn0wbreeze of course jailbreaks your device too — though for now it’s tethered only.

Just about any and every iOS device (iPhone 3GS+, iPad 1, iPod Touch 3rd Gen+) are supported. All you’ll need is the latest sn0wbreeze 2.8 application and a copy of the iOS 5 beta ispw file of your choice.

Griffin Launches HELO TC Helicopter, Controlled By iPhone App!

  • August 17, 2011 11:24 am

We’re big iOS fans around the GS halls. Add to that a healthy amount of obsessiveness over new and exciting toys/gadgets. With that said we’re downright drooling over Griffin’s new HELO TC remote control helicopter that uses an iPhone app and “Flight Deck” hardware attachment for control. But things are much cooler than you think. While you can use the onscreen controls to maneuver the HELO TC, the snap-on controller pack uses the iPhone’s built-in accelerometers and gyroscopes meaning “button free” play time. If you happen to notice a lack of posts in the next week or so, you know what we’re doing…

The HELO TC makes use of a built-in rechargeable battery that can be charged via any USB power source while the Flight Deck module takes 4-AAA batteries and plugs into the iPhone’s headphone jack. Now available from Griffin Technology for $44.99.

Check out the demo video after the break.
