  • iPhone/Apps not just a geek’s hobby anymore. CNBC to air “Planet of the Apps: A Handheld Revolution”
    by Mike

If you ever thought the iPhone and mobile apps were just a passing fad, an upcoming documentary/report by CNBC may have you second guessing the iPhone and mobile applications' impact on the global society on a whole. The program is called "Planet of the Apps: A Handheld Revolution" -- clever. Mind you, this isn't some small, time wasting, fluff that the network is cramming in between "real" stories. Airing January 7th at 10pm (repeat at 1am), Planet of the Apps will consume a full hour of...
  • “I’m on a Phone Mutha f*cker” challenges “I’m On A Mac” for best “I’m On A Boat” remix/parody. [Parody]

Follow that? T-Pain's "I'm On A Boat" while not everyone's personal preference for music, has enjoyed a fair amount of "remixing" the last couple of months (Kanye West version oddly absent). Yesterday we saw a parody movie of "I'm On A Boat" done by SwitchtoMac dubbed "I'm On A Mac". The corniness couldn't be ignored, but overall it was clever and helped relieve a small smidgen of daily stress. Today however the Mac is old news and "I'm On A Phone" is the latest and greatest parody. It'...
  • A few cheap, geeky laughs courtesy of SwitchtoMac.com: I’m on a boat Mac.

Parodies of any type are fun to watch and/or listen to. I'm a completely joker at heart so a little humor at someone or some other corporation's expense is always fine in my book. So I of course had a few chuckles when I saw "I'm On A Mac" -- performed by the talented and funny team over at Switch To Mac. The video is a parody of Lonely Island's "I'm On A Boat" which you've probably heard in one form or another. In Switch To Mac's version, instead of boats being the prized possession, it i...
  • “iTablet” to feature iPhone OS or full blown OS X? Portability and apps or power and expandability?
    by Mike
    Posted December 28th, 2009 at 11:17 am
I stumbled on a thought provoking article on MacDailyNews that really got my mental juices flowing... iPhone OS Looking at the title above and taking into account the various bits of information surrounding a so called Apple tablet that has been beaten and flogged across the digital waves the last year would lead most to believe that any actual device would feature an iPhone-esque OS. I mean, why not? If you want to keep things simple and battery friendly while also tapping into the app st...
  • Safari looses the bronze to Chrome.
    by Mike
    Posted December 15th, 2009 at 2:05 pm
According to Microsoft, Chrome is nothing more than a "rounding error". Though as we continually watch Internet Explorers grip on the internet slip further and further down the totem pole (thank god) we can easily pass such comments off as comments made out of fear and uncertainty. It doesn't matter how Microsoft feels however as Google Chrome has officially moved from #4 to #3 in the browser world, unseating Apple' Safari. On my Mac I used to use Safari as my main browser as it was crazy ...
  • Microsoft cracking down on Apple device usage at press conferences/private events? [Update: False]

**Update: Looks like filing that rumor in the rumor cabinet was worthwhile after all -- (Link) File this in the "half rumor" file cabinet for now. I say "half rumor" because the comments on which this post is based are in German. A German dialect that is apparently too much for Google Translate to handle. The resulting english output is anything but readable. But we press on. Supposedly bloggers and journalists attending a Microsoft event in Germany were warned by a Microsoft employee/...
  • Google Chrome for Mac within days…maybe even hours….

The few Mac users out there actually waiting for the official beta won't have much longer to wait. The evidence is in the "Mac Chrome Status Page" -- or what was the Status page. It has since been revamped and now displays "Mac OS X Roadmap". The weeks and weeks of waiting will soon be coming to a close. I guess those last 8 bugs that were keeping Chrome in that developer stage weren't so bad after all. (Or the devs never slept, ate, and wore diapers....) Of course, also seeing verbiage th...
  • Core i5/i7 (Arrandale) processors to grace MBP’s come early 2010?
    by Mike
    Posted December 1st, 2009 at 6:33 pm
Those with itchy trigger/mouse fingers longing to order a new top-o-the-line Macbook Pro need to get control of themselves and holster their weapons for a brighter horizon is upon us. Would you be so eager to drop 2-3 large on a MBP knowing that Arrandale (read: Core i5/i7) processors are just around the corner from release, bringing a new generation of speed and power in the smallest most energy efficient package yet? Hmm, worded like that, even the king edition of a MBP somehow loses a bit o...
  • Chrome for Mac to come in a tad underweight…

    Posted November 30th, 2009 at 8:24 am
I can't wait for Google Chrome on Mac. Almost since day 1, it replaced Firefox as my main Windows browser and over the last couple of weeks each build release has inched closer and closer to perfection. Granted, I use perfection loosely, merely using it to describe a "finished", stable product. While we can expect a Chrome 4 for Mac of some sort in the next couple of weeks, it will be far from perfect, finished, or full featured. Features such as bookmark manager, mutli-touch gestures, gears...
  • OS Xbox Pro the coolest Xbox mod. Period. Mac Pro stuffed inside…
    by Mike
    Posted November 24th, 2009 at 6:32 pm
Ok, did I miss some announcement on some bizarre national mod week? I mean the OS XBox Pro (pictured above) is now one of many gadget mods we've covered over the last couple of days. All things considered, it could be the millionth custom mod and I would still be just as captivated and geeked out. Some of you may be unimpressed as it appears to be a minor Xbox mod with perhaps some tweaked internal hardware. It's sitting their in it's old age all innocent looking. Oh dear reader...how you c...
  • The Pharoh’s computer of choice: NecroMac [Custom Power Mac G3 mod]

    Posted November 24th, 2009 at 4:11 pm
You know, I love seeing technology modded. Things like custom Xbox's, tricked out PC cases, and mashups of the weirdest gadgets really get me going. Seeing as how I'm almost positive that you're a nerd too, one who also likes custom gadget stuff, allow to share with you NecroMac. The heavily modified Power Mac G3 you see above has hieroglyphs inscribed all over it's plastic canvas giving it that old Egyptian flare that is really impressive. Achieving this blend of old and new was accomplishe...
  • BassJump adds some sonic junk to your Macbook’s trunk
    by Mike
    Posted November 24th, 2009 at 10:06 am
Macbook users have come to depend on their digital appendage just as if it were a real attached limb. It offers a good balance of price, power, and looks all wrapped in a nice little aluminum package. The screen is crisp, the processor fast, and the speakers suck..wait what? Yes, the speakers on pretty much any Apple laptop suck. They're tinny and lifeless, lacking any midrange or bottom end whatsoever. But a new accessory made specially for Mac laptops, the "BassJump", looks to be quite th...
