Is Nintendo The RIM Of The Mobile Gaming World?

  • September 14, 2011 9:14 pm

Facing increasing pressure from shareholders and criticism from consumers, Nintendo’s future strategy needs some work. One of the more recent tips for long-term survival has requested Nintendo test the iOS waters. Ceating games for one of the hottest gaming platforms in the world could certainly help money woes.

But Nintendo will apparently have none of that according to a recent interview with Japan’s Nikkei news outlet.

In our eyes, Nintendo is setting themselves up to be the RIM of the gaming world — out of touch and stuck on repeat…

Spoiler Alert: Nintendo Always Knew You’d Die There!

  • August 2, 2011 11:32 pm

This just ruined my childhood. I cannot unsee what you are about to see. If you are anything like me, you worshipped the ground Mario walked on. You thought of him in the same light as Superman or Batman. He was a hero to those of you that have always lost a princess in war with a mean ugly turtle.

No matter how many times you died, you always knew that you were going to make it to that castle, run and jump over lava and finally release the lever to get the bridge to open and swallow that douche Bowser whole! Nintendo, however, knew that you would die. They knew you wouldn’t make it over that one jump. They were sure your death would be a hot one. So sure they put it directly on the cover the game.

If you dare, we double dog dare you to hop on in the tube and head on down to see the uncensored picture!

There Is A God: GoldenEye 007 Coming To PS3 And Xbox 360.

  • July 19, 2011 3:35 pm

Sweet Zombie Jesus! GoldenEye 007 is coming back from the dead — twice! Last year the Nintendo Wii was the first “modern” console to have the best James Bond game of all time grace it’s innards. But the Wii’s aged hardware was hardly an increase in the good ‘ol Nintendo 64′s capabilities. Many hoped the graphics could be tweaked and ported to more capable beasts. Gripe and you shall receive.

The game hasn’t officially been outed yet by Activision, so exactly how deep this re-launched port goes is anyone’s best guess. But if you ask us, don’t mess with success. Leave the overall mechanics and gameplay the same — that’s what made GoldenEye the smash hit it was (and still is). The nefarious blockheads unloading countless rounds of lead your way, however, could benefit from a tad bit of modern re-touching.

Check out a couple bonus of GoldenEye 007: Reloaded just after the break…

Netflix Streaming “Theoretically Possible” On Wii U Controller.

  • July 11, 2011 8:07 am

Nintendo’s Wii U console certainly stole the show at last months E3 expo. Unfortunately, Nintendo’s keynote left many unanswered question with many of those circulating around the unique characteristics of the Wii U controller and its 6″ display. Since the Wii U will not play DVDs or Blu-ray and must rely on streaming content to its display, many questioned if Netflix support (and similar services) would be supported. While official confirmation from Nintendo has thus far eluded us, Forbes’ David E. Ewalt managed to snag answer an from president and chief operating officer of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aime, regarding such during an interview last month.

According to Reggie, Netflix streaming to the Wii U controller is “theoretically possible”. Nothing else is said in the interview regarding either Netflix or streaming services signalling a potential disinterest by Nintendo. It’s sad if that’s the case as more and more people are wanting multiple-use gadgets in their living room. Just look at all the services you can tie into your PS3 or Xbox 360. Not only are said services making money, but Sony/Microsoft as well whom surely have revenue sharing deals in place.

Ultimately we’ll have to wait until closer to the 2012 Wii U launch date before we find out more.

Duh-Nuh Nuh-Nuh Nuh-Nuh - Super Mario Bros. Speed Run With Lowest Score Possible?

  • July 10, 2011 3:24 pm

Weekends are usually slow on the news. Not much happens. So I decided to fill up some space and your interwebbing with a neat little video. I’m sure everyone remembers 26 or so years ago playing through Super Mario Bros. and trying to get the highest score possible. Breaking every brick known to man, trying to land on the top of the flag outside of the castle and we can’t forget trying to get down every tube to find endless coins… I know it, I’ve tried it all. I always load up my NES and try to beat my last recorded score. I’m addicted to the idea of Mario - I always have been. I probably own every Mario branded game released for every system minus the Nintendo DS.

When I loaded up GameSetWatch last night I was able to see a video that amazed me. An 8 and a half minute video of some guy playing Super Mario Bros. His goal - lowest possible score. After watching the video - twice - I think he’s right. 600 points might be the lowest possible score. Years ago I’ve seen 700 documented as the lowest, but this is obviously lower. No camera tricks were used - minus the time Mario is spent waiting for the time to run out before sticking his tongue to the flag pole.

Hop on in and give the video a watch, and if you can get lower let us know - I know for sure I am going to try!

Wii U Won’t Play DVD or Blu-ray Discs.

  • June 15, 2011 8:37 am

Hoping to replace your again DVD/Blu-ray player with a fancy do-it-all Wii U console in 2012? Better back up a step and sit down — the Wii U won’t support any type of physical format like DVD or Blu-ray…

Sega Executive: “Wii U Will Launch Spring/Summer 2012.”

  • June 13, 2011 8:28 am

Nintendo may not be ready to divulge just when their next-gen console will hit the market, but that isn’t stopping Sega from spilling the beans themselves. During an interview at last weeks E3 trade show, Alan Pritchard, Sega’s executive Vice President of Marketing claimed that Nintendo’s Wii U will be released in the Spring/Summer 2012 time frame.

Seeing as how this came from someone other than Nintendo at a minimum 6 months out, we’re going to go out on a limb and say Pritchard could be a tad off. But hey, rumors make the world go ’round…

Wii U Controllers Won’t Be Sold Separately, Only One Supported At A Time?

  • June 8, 2011 3:58 pm

Nintendo’s E3 keynote was full of pixel punching action with plenty of game previews (despite the fact it the demos showcased PS3 and Xbox variantes) as well as plenty of eye candy of the new Wii U console/hardware. Though we think it goes without saying that the most surprising part of Nintendo’s keynote was the Wii U controller itself which boasts a 6.2″ display and numerous buttons across it’s body. Absent, however, was specific information about the hardware specs, number of Wii U controllers supported — as all the demoes showed only one being used — and pricing for individual Wii U controllers. But the glamor of the fancy Wii U controller and new console could quickly wear off if comments made by a Nintendo rep to CVG turn out to be true…
