  • Craving a little Snow Leopard early review?
    by Mike
    Posted August 27th, 2009 at 5:28 am
Apple's Snow Leopard OS launches tomorrow and comes into the world as one of their cheapest upgrades in a long time -- 8 years in fact. If you are contemplating upgrading for monetary reasons, current Leopard users can take advantage of the super attractive $30 price, while Tiger users will have to pony up an extra $130. (Though Walt Mossberg is claiming you can go from Tiger -> Snow Leopard w/o doing a splash and go with Leopard). Whether or not Mr. Mossberg is correct, one thing is for cer...
  • OS 5.0 leaked for Bold, Tour, and 8900
    by Mike
    Posted August 26th, 2009 at 6:41 am
While Bold users may still be recouping from the excitement the latest AT&T; update brought them, the more daredevilish users may be over and done with that already as they've likely had that firmware version for weeks now. While AT&T; is still messing around with oh so old 4.6 Bold firmware, the real action is in the 5.0 scene. Some brave developer or insider with special access to pre-release BlackBerry OS builds was kind enough to open the door and let loose versions of the 5.0 software for...
  • BlackBerry Bold getting firmware update. Visual Voicemail, 2G/3G mode toggle ensue.
    by Mike
    Posted August 25th, 2009 at 1:35 pm
BlackBerry Bold users rejoice, this afternoon will bring good fortune to you and your beloved piece of Canadian born hardware. RIM announced earlier that an update to the BlackBerry Bold firmware will bring two pretty big updates with it along with the usual performance fixes and other general bug fixes. But we don't care about those mundane bug fixes. Nooo sir (or mam). We care about the numero uno updates such as Visual Voicemail and 2G/3G mode selection... (more...)...
  • Is a WinMo 6.5 “Touch Interface” going to usher in a two-tiered WinMo environment?
    by Mike
    Posted August 19th, 2009 at 5:59 am
While Steve Ballmer aka "The Balms" may be steadfast on his belief and assertion that Windows Mobile will always be a single OS in the sense that their won't be several tiers like the desktop variant, new information that is coming out seems to suggest otherwise. With the recent leak of the HTC Leo ROM which incorporates the new TouchFlo 3D 2.6, we can see that the interface appears to be moving more towards the finger users in the world and eschewing the trusty but old stylus. Further addi...
  • Microsoft’s plan to sell me WinMo phones…Change Windows Mobile to Windows Phone

Remember when you were a kid, the only kid with a funny last name (who am I kidding...the over weight kid that no one ever picked for their team) and everyone made fun of you. Then you were fortunate enough to move to a new town with a new school and new kids. You lied about your name (and your weight) and started to live out a somewhat normal life. You even become pretty popular since your new friends don't know of your troubled past. This generalized story mold fits many things and insta...
  • Yahoo kicks Blackberry to the curb, pulls iPhone back in.
    by Mike
    Posted May 18th, 2009 at 1:11 pm
In what could be seen as a harsh blow to Blackberry users, Yahoo has officially announced that they will be abandoning mobile app development for Blackberry as well as all other smartphones and instead focusing on one single player in the market - the iPhone. While some would see this is as a great way to truly get into the nitty gritty of Apple's jesus device and make developing much tighter by keeping resources and ideas close within one environment, I'm sure countless users from other hand...
  • Snow Leopard: No new BIG features, but some pretty cool minor ones
    by Mike
    Posted February 12th, 2009 at 3:15 pm
Whenever something as big and complex as an operating system is upgraded, people get excited about what new features, bells & whistles, and other doodads will be brought to the table.  In the case of Snow Leopard, if you're a big feature junkie, you're going to be fairly disappointed as Snow Leopard is more about speed, efficiency, and performance rather than a laundry list of new features.  Even though nothing "big" is being brought to the table, there are a few minor features that ar...

    by Mike
    Posted January 18th, 2009 at 6:46 pm
iPhone and iPod Touch users have been lucky enough to have the new BGR app on their devices for the last few days brining quick one touch access to the great site of Boy Genius.  Blackberry users who have been feeling let down and out in the cold should cheer up as BG has reported that he is planning on bringing an app to every major mobile OS.  Next up is Blackberry!  It will take a little longer as the development for the iPhone and iPod touch was one app whereas Blackberry development ...
  • July the new date for Windows 7?
    by Mike
    Posted January 7th, 2009 at 12:45 pm
Boygenius is reporting that Microsoft may be offering up Windows 7 upgrades as early as July!  Definitely earlier than the early 2010 that we have heard in the past.  The upgrade is being marketed as an "affordable upgrade option to all Vista users".  You'll remember Microsoft did the same thing for Xp to Vista switchers only to have that backfire when Vista turned out to be a joke.  However, I don't see people being hesitant this time about the upgrade as many are begging for something ...
  • Microsoft brings up the “Apple Tax”…again.
    by Mike
    Posted January 5th, 2009 at 9:42 pm
It's all common knowledge that Microsoft isn't having the greatest sales results lately.  Between the Vista flop, various other OS issues, as well as just a rather dated looking product line across the board and your have the formula for disappointing sales.  You know Microsoft is digging through to the bottom of the barrel when they start re-iterating the notion of the "Apple Tax".  It's also no secret that Apple products come with a premium.  Not only are you paying for the product, y...
  • G2 becoming more of a reality!
    by Mike
    Posted December 20th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
Boy Genius has been getting report after report of information about T-Mobile's G1 follow up, the G2. Apparently, the previous post wasn't to far off save for the date. The rumored date of release is now February-March of 2009. The device will still have the trackball but will have a full touchscreen taking on the Blackberry Storm and Apple iPhone head on. If the typing is as good as the iPhones soft keyboard Im going to be extremely tempted to switch back to T-Mobile. Other rumors in th...
