Want to make a call or send a text but can't because your normal AT&T; phone keeps dropping calls? *Soon* you'll be able to look no further than the Genus. A love child created between new found partners TeraStar and AT&T; are aimed at bringing expanded coverage to remote areas via satellite. The handset will allow users to "seamlessly" switch between satellite and cellular networks without hiccup. While the Genus is being marketed towards more government and utility companies, AT&T; and TeraSt...
  • Sprint does one for the little guy. Drops Touch Pro2 down to $199 [Update]
    by Mike
    Posted September 30th, 2009 at 8:06 am
Even though I'm not very well versed (read: not at all) in the Windows Mobile world, the Touch Pro2 is a striking handset with good looking hardware and some pretty decent specs to boot. The sky high price tag a couple retailers such as Sprint and T-Mobile were charging was a huge sticking point however. Sure the TP2 is a good phone, but is it $349 good? Many and I would venture to say most would claim "No". Noticing the math error, Sprint has gone ahead and restored some sense of civility t...

If RIM won't give us what we want...someone else will. Right? That's how it seems to work in this world of digital obsession. Waking up this morning I was barraged with emails about numerous 5.0 OS flavors for various BB devices. Talking aside, find your device below and get to downloadin': OS 5.0.0.230 BlackBerry 8330 BlackBerry 9530 OS 5.0.0.238 BlackBerry 8520 BlackBerry 8900 BlackBerry Bold/9000> **Don't forget: Delete the Vendor.xml file or else it's all a no go. • About that Verizon != Pre thing….*just kidding*
    by Mike
    Posted September 25th, 2009 at 1:30 pm
Hey...you can't always get them right. And this one we apparently did not. Following yesterdays reporting from multiple sources that for reasons unknown, Verizon was going to pass on the Palm Pre are looking to be a bit...well..false. Several respectable sources such as The Street and Deutsche Bank’s Jonathan Goldberg are saying yesterdays scare doesn't have much weight. Mr. Goldberg in particular stressed that the Verizon/Pre fallout wasnt accurate and that demand is still healthy enough ...
  • Bad: Paid Pre apps delayed. Good: Pre iTunes sync coming back.

Well well well. If it isn't Palm and the Pre in the news again. We love hearing good stories and often dread the "but there's a bad part" part. It appears the roller coast Palm Pre owners have been on as of late isn't about to stop anytime soon. First, as not to spoil the fun, and because the best always goes last, we'll start with the bad. Bad: The Paid Pre apps and webOS update are delayed until a future date -- obviously -- (next week?). The update will be 1.2.1. And now the good...
  • Palm Pre coming to O2 Germany October/November? [Update: October 13th-16th]
    by Mike
    Posted September 22nd, 2009 at 9:42 am
Palm's Jesus phone, the Palm Pre may soon be coming to O2 Germany if various sources are to be believed. According to nimsso from PreCentral, after receiving a Palm Pre promotional email he decided to call up O2 and inquire further. After talking to an O2 rep, he was advised to call back in 2 weeks at which point he could follow through with a pre-order (no pun intended). If you take into account two weeks starting today and then add another week or three for pre-order waiting, we're lookin...
  • Sony Xperia X3 gets unboxed!
    by Mike
    Posted September 21st, 2009 at 12:26 pm
One of the most lusted after Android handsets on many Android fans' lists is that of the Sony Xperia X3. While the X2 is still brand spanking new and not even available yet, the X3 brings in a much nicer looking and functional Android core, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, and that much hyped "Rachel UI" that have many second guessing their current phone of choice. So far, the unverified specs for the X3 include: 4" WVGA display 1GHz Snapdragon processor Android Donut 8.1 megapixel camera w/ L...
  • Full-Qwerty + Touchscreen (multi-touch) BlackBerry coming soon? Really Soon?
    by Mike
    Posted September 21st, 2009 at 5:13 am
If there is anything more clamored for, more sought after, or most lusted after in the BlackBerry world, a full qwerty + touchscreen model is no doubt near the top of the list. Why with the best of both worlds, your work day will just be that much more efficient right? While there has been much speculation the last several months over a still unseen and undocumented BlackBerry "Magnum", which is to bring the hallowed touch + qwerty combo, today's leaking of information could signal a change ...
  • HTC dual wielding smartphones/platforms on Verizon this fall.
    by Mike
    Posted September 18th, 2009 at 8:02 am
CDMA users often feel left out when it comes to cool phones and such as their GSM brethren are often first to get all the coolest geeky stuff. This fall Verizon is looking to spruce up their offerings a tad with two promising contestants both coming from HTC land. The first up, the HTC Imagio will bring Big Red their first tasting of WinMo 6.5 come early October packing a 3.6-inch WVGA touchscree, 528MHz Qualcom core, 512MB/256 ROM/RAM, 5 megapixel shooter w/ auto-focus and anti-shake features...
  • It’s Official: Palm dropping WinMo. Focusing solely on their baby of love webOS.
    by Mike
    Posted September 18th, 2009 at 6:48 am
In a move that was clearly obvious and needed if Palm was in fact serious about webOS's future, the boys in red (ink) have officially announced that going forward, all Palm handsets will feature webOS and webOS only. The announcement was made at Palm's earnings call likely in hopes to take everyone's mind off the vast amounts of red ink the company is going through. One thing is for certain however, Windows Mobile won't be seen lurking around Palm hardware anytime soon. Can't say I'm disapp...
  • Palm still doing a dance in red ink…bleeding money

If the Pre was supposed to be the saving grace of Palm, I have some news for you: They're screwed. One phone alone can't save a company that has been languishing in mediocrity for some time (such as Palm). It will take multiple releases of innovative and intriguing handsets to get Palm accountants to uncheck the box on the red font square into something a little more business like and classy such as black. I guess you'd like to know the dirty details huh? How about $68mm in Q1 2010 compar...
  • Verizon to snag 3 2 Android handsets by years end?
    by Mike
    Posted September 17th, 2009 at 7:09 am
You're speculation/rumor light should be going full bore right now as what is about to be presented to you is pretty lofty though not so much so that it is completely unbelievable. Starting off, the rumor is based off of a DigiTimes article (please bare with me...give it a chance) that Verizon will be launching both the HTC Desire and HTC Passion (Google phone) in the 4th quarter, bringing the end of year Android count to 3. The reason for the speculation and thought provoking conversation c...
