As with most gadget junkies, your smartphone is your window into the world. Without you often feel lost, without a voice even. You can always carry a spare batter or charger in your pocket but let's be real, no one is wants to do that. If you can sacrifice a couple millimeters of your precious pocket space, the Seidio 2600 mAh extended battery for the BlackBerry Tour will give you the extra juice needed while adding a minimal amount to the Tour's backside. So, if the already bigger than mo...
  • Full-Qwerty + Touchscreen (multi-touch) BlackBerry coming soon? Really Soon?
    by Mike
    Posted September 21st, 2009 at 5:13 am
If there is anything more clamored for, more sought after, or most lusted after in the BlackBerry world, a full qwerty + touchscreen model is no doubt near the top of the list. Why with the best of both worlds, your work day will just be that much more efficient right? While there has been much speculation the last several months over a still unseen and undocumented BlackBerry "Magnum", which is to bring the hallowed touch + qwerty combo, today's leaking of information could signal a change ...
  • BlackBerry Tour high return claims ruffle a few feathers…

Having a piece of art, geeky art that you and your company have spent so many hours and sacrificed blood and tears for experience a quality problem is a sad sad thing to go through. Understandably, I'm sure RIM is feeling the heat as both Verizon and Sprint BlackBerry Tour's (9630) are getting flack from users because of faulty trackballs. Return rates have been estimated as high as the 50% mark according to both Barron's and a CrunchGear poll -- not a small problem or claim to say the least. ...

  • AccuRadio streaming radio app comes to Pre App Catalog. Android, BlackBerry, and iPhone next up.

Even though mobile devices are capacious enough to store many days worth of music, there are times when we just get bored with the music we have with us. With an old, outdated media player, you might have the choice of using the FM radio however, unless you're in a big city, radio stations rarely play anything except the hit singles which also tires pretty quickly. Smartphone users and select feature phone users have within the last few years been able to take advantage of web enabled devices ...
  • BlackBerry OS 5.0 update
    by Mike
    Posted September 16th, 2009 at 7:07 am
While I criticized RIM pretty hard, the addict in me still looks favorably on the old friend as I long for something new and exciting. 5.0 was supposed to be launched Aug/Sept according to several pieces of documentation that circulated over the summer. Obviously August is gone and September is quickly heading that way. So what now? We wait longer. According to RIM as they talked tireless at several BlackBerry symposium events, 5.0 for the enterprise and developer networks is already starti...
  • LineUp for 8900, 9000, and 9630 [BlackBerry Theme]
    by Mike
    Posted September 15th, 2009 at 1:31 pm
Those in the market for a fresh premium BlackBerry theme have another option today with LineUp. While the basic layout is radically unique, the colors used throughout show that the designer, Brandy R. over at Artistic-Me have quite the eye for good design. The theme which is available in either a bottom dock or plus style will cater to most users' needs. LineUp is available for 8900, 9000, and 9630 devices for $6.99 from Artistic-Me.com. If I had a Berry I'd definitely give this theme a tr...
  • Rupert Murdoch ruining Wall Street Journal iPhone/BlackBerry app. Sets Hulu in his sights. $$$
    by Mike
    Posted September 15th, 2009 at 12:38 pm
In what is certainly a shame, the free nature of the Wall Street Journal iPhone and BlackBerry app is about to become a little less free. Starting "soon", users of said mobile apps will have to begin paying up $2/week, according to Rupert Murdoch as he spoke at a Goldman Sachs conference. Even worse, subscribers of the actual news paper who shell out over $100+/year will also have to pay albeit a slightly lower fee of $1/week. Well, so much for that stint on my iPhone. Looks like the WSJ a...
  • RIM missing the point: 3 upcoming devices for 2009. 16 more for 2010. Same tired OS. Is RIM going to become the next Palm?
    by Mike
    Posted September 15th, 2009 at 12:05 pm
In what should be a joyous occasion for me is turning out to be bittersweet if not downright painful. Stumbling upon this post by BlackBerry cool highlights one very large problem -- RIM has completely lost site of where they should be going. First off, the three upcoming devices that are set to fall in the very near future, the Essex (basically a 9630 Tour with WiFi and a trackpad), 9100 (refreshed pearl type device), and 8530 (CDMA version of the 8520 already available) are nothing more th...
  • Afraid of spying eyes? Want a BlackBerry Tour? Sprint has your back.

Consumers and consumer based smartphones are dominating in the current market. But that doesn't mean devices marketed towards corporate users are going away anytime soon. While the recent adoption of cameras on just about every BlackBerry (save for the camera-less 8350i and Bold), cameras seemed to be infiltrating ever nook and cranny of RIM's product line. That is hardly the case though as a newcomer featuring one less piece of glass is very soon coming to Sprint: a camera-less 9630 Tour. ...
  • BlackBerry devices will nuke your noodle [Radiation]
    by Mike
    Posted September 11th, 2009 at 1:25 pm
While the jury is still out (side playing golf, shooting up on heroin, and speeding past police stations without their seat belts on) in regards as to if cell phone radiation is really that bad and how much is too much etc, the latest charts depicting smartphone radiation is sure to rekindle the fire within that fuels panic pushers. The biggest thing that caught my attention is that CrackBerries in general are some of the most prolific and generous with their radio waves as 12/25 or 4/10 of the...
  • Digital Pro [BlackBerry Theme]
    by Mike
    Posted September 10th, 2009 at 8:52 am
Hedone Design seems to be keeping a break neck pace on the theme front as they are churning out incredibly rich themes fairly often. Hey, I'm not complaining, I like change. The coolest part about their latest theme, "Digital Pro", is that it takes a more reserved approach as to not embarrass at the office. Even if you don't work in a stuffy, cold cubicle in some dark corner, this theme is sharp. Interested parties have two options with Digital Pro: V1 or V2. V1 features 6 user-customizab...
