  • Bad news for Canadian Android fans: LG and Rogers updating LG GW 620 with “new” Android 1.6 *moldy* Donut.

Ever been kicked between the legs, fallen on the top bar on a bike, or gotten hit with a stray kick ball right in the sweet spot during gym class? Yeah, we all have. It feels like your world is going to end. Along those same lines, I'm pretty sure that Canadian Android fans running on Rogers Wireless and toting an LG GW620 are feeling pretty much like what I just described. Any upgrade to "old" hardware is always a blessing. Manufactures and developers alike don't have any legal restra...
  • Rogers: “Update your Magic to our firmware or else we’ll cut your data. Oh yeah, say good-bye to your precious root.”

After a relative quiet couple of months, it appears the red bastard up north (read: Rogers Wireless) is back at screwing customers over again. This time, it's Android users -- specifically, rooted Android users -- whom are getting the shaft. It's no secret that there has been a 911 issue plaguing Rogers' HTC Magic devices. For those that root their phones, a fix has already been found and installed. But, that's not good enough for Rogers. They want require you to upgrade your device to th...
  • 8GB iPhone 3GS pretty much confirmed on Rogers website [Not Quite/Maybe so/who knows]

While Apple rarely comments on rumors, and rumors are in fact far from truth until some 1st party steps forward to make it official, the constant mentioning of an 8GB iPhone 3GS model is all but officially confirmed thanks to Rogers. As the screen capture above clearly shows, there is an 8GB iPhone 3GS listed in the comparison chart which means we can now start betting on when and how Apple will announce the new entry level 3GS. While I didn't upgrade to the 3GS from my 3G and have no intent...
  • Canadian iPhone details emerge

Canadian iPhone users gather 'round, the iPhone 3GS plans and pricing are now property of the public domain. First off, subsidized pricing for the 16GB/32GB iPhone 3GS's will be $199 and $299 respectively with the iPhone 3G (8GB) going for the low low price of $99. iPhone users who missed out on that 6GB/$30 iPhone promo plan from last year will get a second chance as...yes...it is coming back for round two...er...three? Now, unlike us Americans stuck on AT&T's ever declining network,...
  • Rogers Wireless iPhone “Value Packs” lack value, rape your wallet
    by Mike
    Posted June 2nd, 2009 at 7:35 pm
Canadian readers who hear the word "Rogers" often visualize images of their wallet puking.  Often in times past, Rogers' various voice and data plans have been less than consumer friendly offering sub par service for an inflated price - not to mention the longer than average 3 year commitment needed for many discounts that aren't even that great to begin with.  When the iPhone 3G launched for Rogers, many were excited for a new beginning with the wireless carrier as they introduced a very re...
  • Canadian Twitter/SMS tweeters tweet away….again
    by Mike
    Posted May 5th, 2009 at 10:35 am
While November was a low point for many Twitter users alike as the drop dead easy and efficient SMS method of tweeting was wiped from Candian carriers' repitrouer, 2009 is a new year to celebrate and embrace love and happiness. Mushy crap aside, it appears as if the quarrels between Twitter and the Canadian cellular providers, Fido and Rogers, that persisted since last November, have finally been resolved as Canadian mobile tweeters can now again tweet until their hearts content by using the ...
  • Rogers and LTE by 2010….maybe…?
    by Mike
    Posted February 20th, 2009 at 12:47 pm
Boy Genius has had the opportunity to talk directly with representitives at Rogers in Canada who are claiming that the news released yesterday about Rogers' plans for a February 2010 LTE launch are completely inaccurate.  Even after letting Rogers listen to the audio clip BG had obtained from his source regarding the story, they continued to deny the claims.  To listen to the full phone call BG had with Rogers hit up Boy Genius Report.  So dear readers, now that the story is going back an...

The 4G momentum is building around the continent folks as Rogers in Canada has announced today plans to launch their 4G LTE network in Vancouver by February of 2010!  Also of interest is the merging of Rogers 3 different internet services: cable internet/3G/Portable internet.  How will that play out?     (more...)...
  • LG Globus TU330…quite the yawner…
    by Mike
    Posted February 16th, 2009 at 10:30 pm
I know in the economic hardships, gadgets and electronics aren't on the top of many peoples' priority lists.  The LG Globus is a prime example of frugality at its finest.  While not the feature beast set to decimate the feature phone world, at least it does bring some features to the table.  A 1.3 megapixel camera, GPS, and stereo bluetooth round out a rather dull feature set.  However, one saving grace is the price, a rather bottom end price of $19.99 means even Mr. Frugal McFrugster wi...
