BlackBerry users, especially those with an eye for customization and design have probably went through at least a couple of themes on the cherished Canadian born phones. One of the best premium theme designing sites located at have continually pushed the envelope of the BlackBerry theme world. Back when animations were just beginning to pick up steam and still helluva hard to incorporate into themes, Elecite was at the forefront weeding their way through. It's hard work no doubt. ...
  • Sony’s Rachel UI flaunts her goods for the video camera!
    by Mike
    Posted October 31st, 2009 at 9:17 pm
Ya, this is one of those times where I just need to keep words to a minimum and let the video do it's thing. In case you can't see the movie, in short: these leaked conceptual demos of Sony's "Rachel" UI are stunning and give Android's pathetic stock media capabilities a kick in the digital groin. So much so I would even compare these as good or better than the iPhone. I love the iPhone's media capabilities and perhaps it could just be that I'm tired of seeing the same thing attempted on so...
  • HTC “Book” UI coming to a smartphone near you?

Companies get ideas, services, and products patented everyday. If it's an idea, they may never even implement or use it in any current or future products. They're protecting themselves. Because of this, we can't take every patent we see literally or as if it is "set in stone" but instead more as "suggestions" as what could be coming in the future. With touchscreen's the new "it" feature on dumbphones, featurephones, and smartphones alike, distinguishing yourself from the playing field that...
  • BlackBerry Theme: “Transitions”

Mobile users can watch the video here It doesn't seem like that long ago that custom "bottom dock" BlackBerry themes were the "it" thing with theme developers anxious over a UI layout that seemed rather simple. After watching the clip above, you can truly see how quickly BlackBerry themes have progressed in the relatively short time span of 1-2 years. The particular them showcased above was created by "Z Man Designs" and is titled "Transitions". If you like the idea of organized and neatly...
  • HTC Magic ROM upgrade brings Sense UI onboard.
    by Mike
    Posted October 23rd, 2009 at 7:40 am
HTC Magic owners lusting after the eye candy and graphical supremacy that is the Sense UI can now make use of an updated Magic ROM via HTC's support site. Besides including the Sense UI, this updated ROM, version " 3.03.715.4", comes complete with Android 1.5 Cupcake. Not quite as exciting as 1.6 (Donut), though better than nothing at least. Talk of HTC Magic's getting the Sense UI have been discussed before as has the lack of T-Mobile/Google branded MyTouch 3G's from receiving this same ...
  • Xperia X3 to pack the fastest version of Android yet?
    by Mike
    Posted October 18th, 2009 at 11:59 am
Speed freaks looking forward to an Android device that can be used without lag from such simple things as swiping between homescreens, fresh rumors cropping up surrounding the upcoming Xperia X3 are quite the head turner. The monstrous 4-inch 852 x 480 touchscreen may be enough for some. Even the 8 megapixel camera will seal the deal for many more naysayers. But the real proof in the pudding is the reported usage of the highly sought after Snapdragon processor. Said processor is better than ...
  • “Silent Night” skin now compatible with iTunes 9!

I'll admit, Apple does a pretty decent job designing a world class UI. Their latest work in Snow Leopard while not radically different from Leopard in any way, is still somehow able to wow me. Though, their taste may not be your taste. Even still, some simply like to change stuff up every once in a while. Especially those who work on their computers day in and day out, starring a the same background, the same theme, the same icons can just get old. Lately I've been into darker themes. Wa...
  • Simple Black&White theme by HedoneDesign
    by Mike
    Posted September 29th, 2009 at 9:56 am
While themes chock full of eye candy are no doubt fun to look at and admire, some people just want a simple, high contrast, easy to navigate interface. HedoneDesign has just the solution: Simple Black&White.; The look is very straight forward with simple icons and meters so you don't have to second guess or strain to read what your Berry is trying to tell you. While I'm not usually a fan of such bare bones themes, this one is actually pretty stylish. The simple life returns for $6.99. Scre...
  • LineUp for 8900, 9000, and 9630 [BlackBerry Theme]

Those in the market for a fresh premium BlackBerry theme have another option today with LineUp. While the basic layout is radically unique, the colors used throughout show that the designer, Brandy R. over at Artistic-Me have quite the eye for good design. The theme which is available in either a bottom dock or plus style will cater to most users' needs. LineUp is available for 8900, 9000, and 9630 devices for $6.99 from If I had a Berry I'd definitely give this theme a tr...
  • Digital Pro [BlackBerry Theme]
    by Mike
    Posted September 10th, 2009 at 8:52 am
Hedone Design seems to be keeping a break neck pace on the theme front as they are churning out incredibly rich themes fairly often. Hey, I'm not complaining, I like change. The coolest part about their latest theme, "Digital Pro", is that it takes a more reserved approach as to not embarrass at the office. Even if you don't work in a stuffy, cold cubicle in some dark corner, this theme is sharp. Interested parties have two options with Digital Pro: V1 or V2. V1 features 6 user-customizab...
  • Gmail gets a couple new themes
    by Mike
    Posted September 4th, 2009 at 6:06 am
The geeks of this world who love change, design, and eye candy and also happen to be users of Gmail will be pleasantly pleased to know that a few new themes have popped up in the themes section: Orcas Island, Turf, and High Score. Obviously, the blatant Nintendo look-alike isn't called "Nintendo" because of various copyright lawsuits that would result almost immediately. If you're a retro gamer or dig the look, have at it. Though be warned, the retro look does make reading anything pretty...
  • BlackBerry Theme: Dark Room

When I made BlackBerry themes just a couple years ago, I always loved making my own battery and signal meters. To me, a custom theme wasn't that that unique or cool unless cusotm icons were used. Moving forward, BlackBerry themes have moved forward exponentially in complexity and style with the latest themes completely blowing away anything I made. Likewise, the meters that are being created from various theme designers are truly innovative and unique. One such new theme that branches off ...
