  • Twidroid 3.0 for Android coming early December
    by Mike
    Posted November 24th, 2009 at 8:11 am
Even though I wasn't initially enamored with Twitter, I have come around in the last year. While I'm still by no means a twit-a-holic, I do find myself spending more and more time on the popular micro-blogging network. Since I jumped ship from my iPhone to the Android platform, I've been looking far and wide for a comparable Twitter client. Twidroid has generally been crowned the top Android Twitter app, though unfortunately isn't even close to Tweetie 2 for the iPhone. Now I'm not saying th...
  • USB Sofas: The coolest social/sharing gadget ever.
    by Mike
    Posted November 23rd, 2009 at 3:21 pm
Thinking of the craziest yet useful gadget wouldn't normally involve a couch. But the minds behind the USB Sofa are some special breed of human. I mean, couches do nothing but sit, stationary, never moving unless one of us humans move them. Why not make all of that wasted space go to good use by cramming in some digital storage? Everything else is becoming a USB drive, why not a couch? The only difference is that the USB Couch is actually useful and clever. You see, the concept is simple, ...
  • “Touiteur” the best looking Twitter app for Android!
    by Mike
    Posted November 21st, 2009 at 11:51 am
One of the few faults I have with the Android platform is the lack of killer apps and polished apps. But one app by Levelup Studios called "Touiteur" looks like it will finally bring awesome functionality and eye candy. Ok, I'll admit that this app does take some iPhone-esque styling cues. Even still, I'm definitely buying this app as soon as it becomes available. So after watching the vid, can we all agree that it's easily the most functional and best looking Twitter app for Android? I'd e...
  • Looking for ways to tweet? Mount a coffee cup to your car roof…

I don't know about you, but when I see a clever usage of Twitter whether it's a tweeting beer keg or a tweeting cat, I find myself smiling and realizing the overall joys in life are small, nerdy, and just plain innovative. Innovative isn't what some would call "GitEmSteveDave's" crazy Coffee-on-a-car contraption with other honorable mentions being "dumb", "stupid", "retarded", etc. I have a sense of humor and practice using it every day. It appears Steve has one too as the picture above shows...
  • Outlook 2010 getting more social.
    by Mike
    Posted November 18th, 2009 at 3:05 pm
Have you been sitting at your desk staring at Outlook and wondering why you couldn't view other types of information about your contacts? I'm not talking about the simple information you can find by opening up the address book. I'm talking about integration with outside sources. Sources such as social networking sites. If Outlook is supposed to be this huge communication tool, syncing up or at least displaying social networking information tied to your Outlook contacts would be a huge benefi...
  • iPhone Facebook lead developer Joe Hewitt calls it quits over App Store policies. [Update]
    by Mike
    Posted November 11th, 2009 at 9:08 pm
**Update inside: webOS in Joe's Crosshairs?... Apple may be rolling out a new window -- albeit small window -- that allows iPhone devs to peer into the inner workings of the App Store approval process, but is it too little too late? The link in the previous sentence goes to an article I just wrote on how Apple can make this new found gesture of "openness" actually useful. Again, that's already old news. It happened several hours ago. The fact of the matter is, Apple has taken so long to...
  • Facebook Chat coming to Google Talk and others soon?
    by Mike
    Posted November 6th, 2009 at 1:36 pm
Oh the happiness that is flowing through my veins... While I am more than ecstatic with my new Moto Droid, the one thing I want that it doesn't currently offer is Facebook Chat. I'm sure many social butterflies in Android land feel the same. Well, there's some good news. Ok, being new to the Android scene I made a newbie mistake. Facebook Chat is supported with Meebo. I've been using Meebo since yesterday on my Droid and like it overall. It could use some tweaking for the Droid's highe...
  • Facebook gives users a channel to grieve
    by Mike
    Posted October 28th, 2009 at 7:16 am
Having a friend or loved one pass away is never a fun thing to go through. With a society so entrenched in social networking, the accounts and services that are left behind when the original owner passes often get forgotten and left in a state of "always on". In the case of Facebook profiles, once a person had passed, unless someone else knew the password that was it. There was nothing anyone could do. The page was there forever, ingrained in the digital world. Realizing this extreme oversi...
  • Chad Ochocinco to all who support “traditional” news based business models: “To hell with the middleman”
    by Mike
    Posted October 27th, 2009 at 2:35 pm
The social networking bans making there way across various professional level sports is not only stupid, but extremely ignorant and short sighted on the leagues' parts. First, by protecting old archaic business models and not embracing a new, modern technology, they are pushing themselves and their message further into irrelevance. Thankfully for us techies, Bengals player, Chad Ochocinco, isn't taking this affront to modern news reporting or fan interacting lightly. Mr. Ochocinco is starting...
  • Facebook and MySpace to be new best buds?
    by Mike
    Posted October 26th, 2009 at 7:37 pm
If there was ever a pairing between two long time rivals that eventually kissed and made up, the rivalry between Facebook and MySpace would definitely not be near the top of my list list. But pigs are going to soon sprout wings and hell will in fact start freezing over (I can feel my feet getting cold as we speak) as Owen Van Natta, MySpace CEO has been officially quoted saying that they are "in talks" with Facebook exec's. Similarly, Facebook's COO, Sheryl Sandberg stated: "we would like to h...
  • Facebook gets new touch friendly mobile site:
    by Mike
    Posted October 22nd, 2009 at 11:59 am
Touchscreens and mobile apps are the big draw for mobile users in the here and now. With the wide range of handsets available worldwide, it's impossible to create an app or special web page for every single one. It's ok. No need to cry or lose sleep as your mobile social networking aspirations will be taken care via Facebook's new page for mobiles: As you can guess, this new portal is specifically tailored to touhscreen phones giving users overall larger and more finger ...
  • MySpace’s Tom Anderson becomes Mr. Facebook [comedy]
    by Mike
    Posted October 22nd, 2009 at 5:11 am
If that isn' t a slap in the face, I don't know what is. Whether Mr. Anderson has some ill will or salty feelings for his old love is between him and himself for the time being. What is immediately apparent to all of us is now that he's free, he can be a bit more, um, social. Even though the page is fake, as one can see above, it is well done and a great play on social networking none the less. Did it have you fooled at first? Mashable >
