Things for team Android are finally starting to pick up. What was a lackluster and slow moving year in 2008 is making strides in the right direction in 2009 as Android handsets from various manufacturers are starting to crop up. Sprint who had voiced interest in Android when it was originally released to the public on the G1 said that while it was interested, Android wasn't yet mature enough. Well folks, we all know the HTC Hero is coming to Sprint packin' Android and some mighty sweet feat...
  • Fight the good fight and stick it to the man…the greedy man

When you're in a hurry and have to leave someone a message on their voicemail, you want to do it right this second, not 15, 20, or 30 seconds from now. Another reason for the quick message is not only because of time constraints but more importantly to save a few pennies. Those precious seconds you're stuck on the phone listening to some stupid recording when you could be yapping away yourself costs against your minutes, and if you're over your minutes they go on your bill as nasty overages....
  • Sprint continues downward spiral…searching for whiskey bottle as we speak

If anyone wanted to see the prime example of the rise and fall of a company, look no further than Sprint. Once a much greater force in the wireless world is now but a distant third (working their way to fourth) in terms of customer base and earnings. The Palm Pre was marketed as Sprint's saving grace. It was the CDMA jesus phone if you will much the same as Apple's iPhone has been classified for GSM carriers. However, the Pre never had as much hype and media attention as Apple's devices me...
  • Palm Pre now on Verizon! [Illegitimately]
    by Mike
    Posted July 10th, 2009 at 11:21 am
The Palm Pre is considered by many as the one thing that kept Palm from going completely belly up in the year 2009. While it won't turn the company into an Apple-esque super power overnight, it is at least keeping the lights on. Sadly, CDMA lovers in the U.S. have only one option in which to purchase a Palm Pre: Sprint. However, Cleanser, a member of PreCentral forum, has managed to do the seemingly impossible. He unlocked his Pre and got it up and *mostly* running on Verizon (voice and SM...
  • Palm Pre to be first mobile device with Kazaa powered HD video service

Reach into the depths of your mind. Way back past the spider webs, old rusty wagons, and Aunt Bettie's rotting fruit cake. In that little desolate corner there resides the memories of your younger years and Kazaa, the once very popular though very illegal file sharing service. After going the numerous lawsuit scares several years back, they implemented a subscription model of $19.95/year. Super. So why the importance now? It has just been revealed that the Palm Pre will be the first mobi...
  • Unlock landscape email on Palm Pre via secret code

Why Palm neglected to add a landscape keyboard throughout when they have watched Apple get chastised relentlessly over the last two years for the very same thing is beyond me. But, have no fear, average joes, you can take your destiny into your own hands. Those of you worrying about jailbreaking, hacking, or any other involved methods that are more often than not frowned upon can throw those worries out the window. All that is needed to access the landscape keyboard in the email application...
  • Verizon again takes top honors in call quality/speed tests

While AT&T; and their iPhone may claim to be the top dog in the cellular marketplace, they're nothing but an old dirty mutt gimping along on two and a half legs.'s that bad. But hey, lets start with the good. A test conducted in 13 cities by PC World shoed Verizon pulling ahead in the mobile speed race with download speeds averaging 951Kbps with an 89.8% "uptime" (read: uninterupted performance). Sprint wasn't that far behind passing the gates at a still brisk 808kbps and 90.5% rel...
  • Palm Pre firmware updated to 1.0.4 — Un-jailbroken homebrew goodness now but a dream
    by Mike
    Posted June 29th, 2009 at 1:23 pm
Palm Pre number counters who have a love for firmware newness may want to hold off if they are part of the group partaking in homebrew apps running on un-jailbroken devices due to an easily exploited security hole. In what is bittersweet, Palm has plugged the security breach in 1.0.4, however that has rendered un-jailbroken devices unable to install any more homebrew apps. One diamond in the rough if you will is the fact that previously installed apps will still work. So how long until .4 f...

One of the greatest features of the iPhone that Apple sadly fails to support is that of iPhone themes and UI customization.  I understand they want their devices to have a certain graphical "prettiness" and present a funtional yet highly eye gushing experience, but come on guys, give the consumers some control.  Thankfully various programmers and graphic designers have spent countless nights toiling away at unlocking the iPhone and its inner secrets so that you, the gadget user, can experi...
  • Palm getting all hot and bothered by hacking community
    by Mike
    Posted June 15th, 2009 at 11:35 am
In what can be scene as an assualt against our free will and "openess", Palm is very quickly putting up a very Apple-like walled garden if you will around their redemption phone, the Palm Pre.  We all know now that Sprint is putting pressure on Palm to confront Pre hackers in regards to tethering the device.  It is now known that Palm is getting even more heavy handed with their control in the form of mandatory webOS updates.  Chalk that up as crap.  While it is nice that they want every...
  • Pre tether hackers beweare, Sprint doesn’t like you nor your tethering needs
    by Mike
    Posted June 15th, 2009 at 8:24 am
One of the greatest features of smartphones today is the ability to tether said device to a computer effectively turning your phone into a mobile broadband modem allowing you to surf the open web.  However, in what is another prime example of a carrier limiting and restricting the capabilities and pros of hardware is unproudly displayed by none other than Sprint themselves.  It appears that Palm Pre hackers who have already gotten tethering to work on Palm's jesus phone and posted the how-...
