RIP - Steve Jobs 1955-2011

  • October 5, 2011 8:18 pm

I really don’t know what to say. This is a very sad day. I have words flying around my head but as I try to type nothing comes out.

Everyone here at GS are keeping all of his family and friends in our thoughts. We have lost an incredible person, visionary, co-worker, and friend that has brought each and every one of us something special - at least once.

Good-bye, Steve…we’ll miss you

Apple TV - Actual TV - Set for Fall Release??

  • June 21, 2011 9:06 pm

Well, the rumors may hopefully come to fruition - Apple might be set to deliver us a display that will pwn all displays - EVER! I’ve had many a dry and wet dream of this day, as I did dreaming of when Apple would make a phone. The rumors have always been high, which makes sense from the sweet arse Cinema Displays that have been released with the Apple Brand.

But think about it, a full fledged Television - Apple Logo - Small remote - Even an iPhone/iPod remote - iTunes built in - iCloud doing cloudy things above it - really, think about it! “Sources” close to DailyTech whisper sweet nothings (hopefully somethings) in our ears involving a really neat relationship between a major Display OEM and Apple that will bring us super cool eye candy, and something that our kids (by which I mean us) can sit too close too. A former Apple Exec says that Apple is planning on “blowing Netflix and all those other guys away!” The TV will most likely have the AppleTV and iTunes bundled inside of it - INSIDE!!!!!

So what do you readers at home think? Good idea for Apple to dip their toes into the television world? Personally, I only think it is worth it if they will make my TV experience ‘Magical.’ They really need to ‘revolutionize’ the crappy TV I have sitting in front of me now. I think bundling the AppleTV and iTunes will be a neat idea, but I also think they should really integrate the iDevice family. Maybe something along the lines of how Nintendo is doing it with the new remotes, but with Apple cores and seeds. We’ll see this fall/Holiday season if the rumors will once again be squashed, or if it will bring a new iProduct into my househould. Small question still lingers though - with AppleTV already taken, what could ‘ol Stevie name it???

Steve Jobs Takes Another Leave Of Absence

  • January 17, 2011 9:46 am

Is Steve Jobs having recurring health problems? If a claimed internal email is to be believed, then yes. News of Steve’s medical leave is spreading like wildfire this morning, with even larger publications picking it up leading to the claim’s authenticity. In the email, Steve once again singles out COO Tim Cook as the new man in charge for day-to-day operations. Steve, however, will remain in the loop for “major strategic decisions”. Whether this new medical leave is a result of recurring illness from his last medical leave or new altogether, we wish him the best. Email below.

Team,

At my request, the board of directors has granted me a medical leave of absence so I can focus on my health. I will continue as CEO and be involved in major strategic decisions for the company.

I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for all of Apple’s day to day operations. I have great confidence that Tim and the rest of the executive management team will do a terrific job executing the exciting plans we have in place for 2011.

I love Apple so much and hope to be back as soon as I can. In the meantime, my family and I would deeply appreciate respect for our privacy.

Steve Jobs: “AirPlay for All Coming in 2011″. #ios

  • December 1, 2010 9:42 am

Frustrated that Apple neutered AirPlay on iOS 4.2 by limiting 3rd party apps from streaming video and photos to other iOS devices? Join the club. One distraught MacRumors reader took it upon himself to email the man Steve Jobs himself. Luckily for all of us, he responded with the following:

Yep, hope to add these features to Airplay in 2011.

It would be nice to get some insight as to why Apple made the decision to limit 3rd party services and even Safari to audio-only AirPlay from the start. Though given Apple’s nature, such information is rarely shared voluntarily.

On that note, If you’re tired of waiting, you can always jailbreak your iOS device and add “http://cydia.zone-mr.net” to your Cydia repository. Doing so will give you access to the hack that allows unfettered AirPlay functionality for all medium to all devices. Feeling a bit better?

The Xserves Death in True Short Steve Jobs Fashion.

Emailing Steve Jobs is now about as synonymous with writing Santa for presents. If you have a wish/problem, Steve will respond. Sort of different than your parents posing as the man himself. But hey, you get the picture.

A French Xserv user who was saddened and upset by Apple’s decision to nix the high-end hardware shot off an email to none other than Steve Jobs. Hopefully he wasn’t looking for a long, detailed explanation, because as we all know, Steve Jobs’ responses are anything but. On that note, the official word according to Steve: “Hardly anyone was buying them.”

Shocking — I know. Sarcasm aside, it’s sad to see such a powerful piece of hardware die. Not to mention, Mac Pros just don’t fit into server racks quite as nicely.

Hop inside for a picture of the actual email exchange.

Give the gift of music: Steve Jobs giving Chilean miners new iPods

  • October 13, 2010 5:00 pm

For the Chilean miners whom are finally seeing the light of day after 70 days 1/2 mile underground, simply walking in the light is enough of a gift. Besides surviving a mine collapse and being reunited with their families, a third bout of luck is on the miners’ way. LeFigaro is reporting that Apple CEO Steve Jobs himself will be personally gifting the rescued miners their very own iPods. For a man (and a company) literally swimming in cash, giving away a dozen or two iPods is an atom of a drop in a bucket. Nevertheless, it’s a nice gesture by Jobs and shows how uncommonly compassionate he can be.

As of writing, the actual iPod model to be gifted is not known. But fear not, we’ve shot an email off to Apple and are awaiting a response. Honestly though, any free Apple product is impressive enough.

Jobs gives RIM a dirty job that RIM doesn’t take kindly to. I think… [RIM gives Apple frowny face] -Updated

  • July 17, 2010 8:41 am

Well, it happened, someone is mad at Apple! Go figure… After the short notice press conference yesterday morning in Cupertino, we have some backlash. If anyone watched the video, or followed the coverage via this or any tech blog, you might have noticed the pictures of ‘death grips’ on many a smartphone. This is all well, as I will agree with Mr. Jobs, if you completely encase a phone in hands made of bricks, it will lose reception, not the point though. Apple is trying to deflect it’s design fubar onto other phone makers so it doesn’t make them look like bags of douche.

RIM has released a statement in response to yesterday’s conference which I have included after the break…

Steve Jobs has his way with Gizmodo [Parody]

  • June 10, 2010 2:48 pm

We all love a good laugh now and then. Whether it’s at the expense of someone else, or a genuine happening of the universe, humor comes in many shapes, sizes, and colors. But being that we’re tech gurus, the things that really make us chuckle revolve around gadgets. In recent memory, there’s no better story to pick fun at than the iPhone 4/Gizmodo Bar blunder that is now pretty much known to everyone.

In the real word, a judge will ultimately decide the outcome of the iPhone 4/Gizmodo leak. But that leaves all of us wondering what exactly Steve would do if here were given the final say. A mystery it is no more. Stop wondering and watch the parody inside…
