  • HTC HD2 video showing TMO branding all but confirms what we already knew…
    by Mike
    Posted December 22nd, 2009 at 5:35 am
Regardless of your opinion on Windows Mobile, you have to admit that the HTC HD2 -- all 4.3" of it's glass faced frontal beauty -- is a drop dead gorgeous phone. Currently however, US citizens are left without any official channels to pick up a subsidized or even a US version of the device. That's all set to change in the not too distant future. A video (below) showing a new "2.0.1" ROM showcases among other things, a very familiar magenta boot image that goes "Stick Together" -- a TMO sl...
  • US gets first commercial HSPA+ network thanks to BendBroadband. [Update]
    by Mike
    Posted December 16th, 2009 at 6:44 am
Here we are thinking that some big money making corporate machine such as AT&T; was going to launch the first HSPA+ network in the states. It takes money to put up and support all of the physical and digital mojo behind such a network which is why the obvious default to the countries largest GSM provider was a given -- or so we thought. Thanks to BendBroadband, a central Oregon cable company, the US does now in fact have the sweet, speedy waves of HSPA+ blanketing the fortunate few. Those luck...
  • Motorola working on AT&T/T-Mobile 3G chip in an attempt to bring the two love birds together
    by Mike
    Posted December 11th, 2009 at 1:02 pm
Imagine the day when you can pick up either an AT&T; or T-Mobile 3G device and move freely between the two GSM carriers without a care in the world concerning 3G abilities. Such a module seems like it would have been a no brainer. If they can squeeze four 2G frequencies on a chip, what the hell is taking them so long to get three 3G frequencies on a chip? I don't know the answer, but I can tell you that Motorola is working on a solution. A new 3G module they're developing would do what many a...
  • Motorola Motus and AT&T to sing sweet sweet music come spring of 2010?
    by Mike
    Posted December 10th, 2009 at 1:28 pm
While my year long honeymoon with AT&T; left me looking for annulment, for my fellow gadget lovers still calling Big Blue home I bring you more hopeful information of AT&T;'s potential first Android device. The Motorola Motus was last in the headlines about three weeks ago when we first caught wind of some leaked specs. But we'll come back to specs in a hot minute. As for the whole rumor of AT&T; picking up the Motus -- well, that is a starting to look a little more likely. AT&T; badly needs an...
  • Nokia N97 price cut in half. 3-year marriage commitment to Bell Canada needed…
    by Mike

For whatever reason, Nokia phones have failed to really catch on here in the states. I know we've all seen those junk freebie Nokia's that just about every carrier has, using them to inflate their bottom line. But the real meat is that of smartphones. Here in the states and even North America as a whole, Nokia smartphones are often left for those with deeper pockets than most thanks to a lack of carrier subsidizing. $5-$600 phones are simply too much for most end users to pay. Even the most...

    Posted November 13th, 2009 at 6:43 am
If you're in the Market for an Android device, you've got quite the selection this holiday season. But if you're a bleeding edge nerd who wants the top of the line, you really only have a couple choices. Sprint's HTC Hero or Samsung Moment and Verizon's Droid Eris or DROID Droid are really the top models for the time being. But another option is coming quick in the form of the Samsung Behold II. This new device from Samsung will be the first Android device to feature Samsung's "TouchWiz" cus...
  • Motorola Sholes coming to T-Mo USA?
    by Mike
    Posted November 2nd, 2009 at 12:55 pm
So Big Red is like a disease to you and you can't fathom moving to Euro-land just to purchase and *fully* use a Euro-spec Droid Milestone? No worries dear reader as a screenshot showing a reported "dev only" section of a MotoBLUR site shows something very interesting indeed. See that circled bit of info? It points to a TMO edition of the Motorola Sholes -> Droid. If a GSM version exists outside of the country, it isn't hard to believe a GSM version would come state side. On one had it wou...

I'll give you a minute to come down off of your certain gadget fueled high before I break some not so happy news.... .... ... .. . Ok, now that, that is out of your system Ill get on with it. The GSM HTC Hero w/ AT&T; specific 3G bands is coming to our continent. The bad part? It's going to our friends up north on Telus. Damn! Those lucky Canadians. Eh, it's not all bad. The biggest part of the battle -- getting the right operating frequencies -- is half over. Now you'll just need t...
  • CMDA what? GSM Droid gets video shoot.
    by Mike
    Posted October 28th, 2009 at 2:02 pm
**Warning: If you're not a Michael Jackson fan, play this vid with mute enabled...you'll quickly understand... Not to steal any thunder from CDMA/Verizon users and their new found Jesus Christ Digital Superstar (aka: The Moto Droid), but the GSM Droid steals my attention in the video above. If you're not quite sure you want to crawl into bed with Big Red for the next two years of your life, the video above should give you the needed eye candy and motivation to hold out just a little bit long...
  • Tmo 9700 decides to stay home a few more days. Not showing up until November 16th party.
    by Mike
    Posted October 28th, 2009 at 7:59 am
Products release dates getting pushed back are never fun at all. Starting with a sentence like that, you know that something now so smile inducing is following. Word is that the much lusted after T-Mobile BlackBerry 9700 decided to hold of it's coming out party until November 16th. You know T-Mobile better watch out. Starting a string of delays isn't fun for anyone and this delay in particular is starting to remind me of the delay after delay style launch AT&T;'s Bold suffered from. We can o...
  • Light show coming to T-Mobile via Sony Equinox
    by Mike
    Posted October 26th, 2009 at 9:04 pm
While I generally try to avoid phones with overly gimmicky features or slogans, the Sony Equinox is rather neat little clamshell phone. Not a smartphone by any means, the Equinox sings a different tune. A tune of affordability and sophistication. Specs include a 2.2 inch QVGA internal display, GPS, Stereo Bluetooth, FM Radio, YouTube support, and a 3.2 mp shooter. Average sounding specs aside, the real marketing muscle behind this particular handset revolves around the way the external scree...

    by Mike
    Posted October 23rd, 2009 at 8:35 am
Baltimore inhabitants: Get ready to see another bar, drop 5 calls instead of 50, and enjoy overall better coverage. AT&T; has just finished upgrading your fine city 850MHz 3G coverage meaning network performance should become more reliable and better performing. We shall see. So far, forum posts on various AT&T; based forums have shown mixed results if any. Would a vocal Baltimorians care to chip on their experience so far? PhoneScoop...
