U.S. Cellular recently scored a big win with the Motorola Electrify. And starting next month the Android festivities continue with three new Android devices: the HTC Wildfire S and Hero S smartphones as well as the and Flyer tablet.

Starting things off is the Wildfire S with a smallish 3.2-inch 480 x 320 display, Qualcomm MSM8227 processor @ 600 MHz, 512 MB RAM/512 MB ROM, 5mp camera w/ LED flash, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread with HTC Sense. Pricing will be set at $79 when paired with a new 2-year contract or for customers on one of the carrier’s “Belief Plans”.

The Hero S ups the ante with a single-core 1.2 Ghz Qualcomm Snapragon processor, 4-inch Super LCD qHD (540 x 960) display, 768 MB of RAM, 5mp rear-facing camera with LED flash and f2.2 lens + VGA front-facing camera, and Android 2.3.5 (Gingerbread). Pricing is set at $199.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate with a new 2-year contract and to customers subscribed to a Belief Plan.

Finally, the 7-inch HTC Flyer will swoop in @ $399 packing a peppy 1.5 GHz Snapdragon processor and ample 32 GB of internal storage. HTC has also bundled the “Scribe” stylus with the Flyer meaning on-screen doodling (and whatever else you do with a stylus these days) can be had right out of the box. The $399 price tag is after a $100 MIR and 2-year contract (with $54.99/month data plan) renewal/sign-up.

For now release dates for all three devices is listed simply as “next month”.

U.S. Cellular Expands Pre-Paid Phone Options With Samsung Gem And HTC Merge.

  • August 17, 2011 9:04 am

Going the pre-paid route doesn’t have to be as depressing as it once was. Once a market full of bottom of the barrel feature phones, it is now beginning to flourish with its own assortment of smartphone phones.

Yesterday U.S. Cellular added two new phones — the Samsung Gem ($139) and HTC Merge ($299) — to their pre-paid lineup. Monthly plans come in $60 and $70 packages with both plans sharing unlimited texts and 2 GB of data. The former gives users 450 minutes per month while the latter bumps minutes to unlimited as well. What’s nice is that both plans are over the required $50 requirement for U.S. Cellular to waive activation fees — win!

If the phones above don’t tickle your fancy, U.S. Cellular’s other pre-paid fodder includes the LG Optimus U and LG Apex.

U.S. Cellular To Cover 25% Of Market With LTE By Holiday 2011!

  • May 6, 2011 1:47 pm

If you’re a fan of U.S. Cellular but are getting antsy watching your Verizon frenemies and all their LTE shenanigans, we’ve got some good news for you! By holiday 2011, U.S. Cellular will have over 25% of their entire coverage area bathing in the LTE goodness spread across two dozen markets including: Iowa, Wisconsin, Maine, North Carolina, Texas and Oklahoma. More prominent cities that will be celebrating come launch day — Milwaukee, Madison and Racine, Wis.; Des Moines, Cedar Rapids and Davenport, Iowa; Portland and Bangor, Maine; and Greenville, N.C.

No word on when the rollout is specifically supposed to begin, when it will wrap up later this year, or what LTE devices will launch with said service. With that said, U.S. Cellular does promise to have an incoming wave of new LTE devices planned for the early stages of the LTE network’s launch.

**We’re hearing the rollout for the LTE network will begin in November. The phones if launching alongside the network will follow shortly thereafter barely in time for the holiday season. Considering the carrier does have some decent perks such as earlier upgrades, would you consider jumping your current ship?
