  • Verizon: “The iPhone will…err…if we had an iPhone, it would totally work better on our network.

The ever persistent iPhone/Verizon rumor comes and goes in what seems like monthly cycles. The rumors are brought on by god knows what as there are plenty of reasons and clues pointing both towards and away a CDMA iPhone for VZW. Of course, with AT&T;'s current plight, the case for a VZW bound iPhone is stronger than ever with VZW even letting a few of their own voice their own opinions, saying something along the lines that Verizon would rock the iPhone sooo much better. One exec in particula...
  • Verizon and Bing sitting in a tree, No G. o. o. g. l. e….

Wireless carriers form partnerships and deals with various 3rd parties all of the time. For sake of the next 35 seconds of your life, we're going to focus on the software side of things. If you happen to have a BlackBerry running on Verizon, fire up the 'ol BB Browser running the latest firmware and take a look in the search box. Chances are you'll see "Bing" in grayed out incognito colors. RIM going Bing only is one possibility. Though so is a Verizon/Microsoft search deal as well. Whiche...
  • webOS training at VZW stores starts. Pre/Pixie launch can’t be too far off.

Back when the Palm Pre was launched, Sprint boasted of their exclusive deal with Palm concerning webOS. (A lot of good that did them...) Verizon countered with an "end of year" release of webOS themselves. Obviously they were a bit too excited as Sprint ended up being correct -- that Verizon wasn't getting any webOS love until 2010. Well, 2010 is just around the corner and tonight we can now feast our eyes upon the very training documents VZW employees are currently consuming, prepping f...
  • Verizon Palm Pixie passes FCC? 2010 launch all but confirmed?
    by Mike
    Posted December 13th, 2009 at 9:52 pm
Palm has had a rather tough time so far getting webOS off the ground. The Pre has more or less done pretty good though it's short of what I'd call a blow out success. Still, Palm still has some fight (or is it just reflexes on a dead carcass now...?) left in them. The Palm Pixie isn't as high end as the Pre, but it's purpose in life isn't to steal the hearts and minds of the high end market. The Pixie is meant to bring up the bottom end -- to usher in droves of new users who may not have had...
  • GSM Droid (Milestone) coming to US retailers. Thick, hard as steel string attached…
    by Mike
    Posted December 11th, 2009 at 1:34 pm
The Droid is the current "must have" Android gadget. It's sleek, powerful, and pretty darn good all around. US users however are limited to one carrier at the moment -- Verizon. Much like some people won't switch to AT&T; for the iPhone, there are many who feel the same about Big Red. Hey, whatever floats your boat folks. The tale across the big blue pond is slightly different however as GSM is much more prevalent than the ugly step child (aka CDMA). Yesterday the Motorola Milestone (Europe...
  • HTC Passion becomes “Bravo” for stateside appearance.

So far most in the Android realm have been enamored with this so called HTC Passion. With a lovely 3.5" AMOLED and 1GHz Snapdragon processor, on paper it's easily the best Android phone to date. Unfortunately, word of delays are making their rounds, destroying what little happiness we had been reserving for the holiday gadget shopping season. But such is the way of the world. A few days back, HTC's entire product map was leaked for the 1H of 2010. In it was a rather Passion-esque "Bravo". ...
  • DROID and HTC Droid Eris to receive Android 2.1 update January 11th or January 22nd?
    by Mike
    Posted December 7th, 2009 at 9:46 am
Get your salt shakers folks. You'll need them yet again as this is for now a "what if" type of question. It's highly suspected that the Android 2.0.1 update will drop on December 11th just a few days from now. Verizon themselves mentioned that the Droid would receive such an update "before the holidays". Now, also put into your internal RAM that Verizon has stated that the HTC Droid Eris will receive an upgrade to at least Android 2.0 in Q1 of 2010. Finally, back on November 9th we had a st...
  • AT&T actually fares better than Verizon in latest tests…?
    by Mike
    Posted December 7th, 2009 at 5:09 am
If there's one thing about wireless network tests, it's that they're constantly being conducted by various groups looking to disprove claims of their competitors while bolstering claims of their own. The last several months of my AT&T; contract were hell. Dropped calls increased by day, signal strength was abysmal, and rounding out the trifecta was a trip to a University of Michigan football game when I couldn't place a single call, text, or call up a web page all day -- even with five bars -- ...
  • FCC puts Verizon under the microscope for excessive cancellation fees and “accidental data fees”
    by Mike
    Posted December 4th, 2009 at 2:35 pm
Cancelling your cellphone contract use to come with a hefty fee of anywhere from $175 up to $200+. The carriers justified this fee by highlighting how customers buying subsidized phones and then canceling their contracts was killing their checkbooks. Then a revelation happened last year -- pro-rated cancellation fees starting at the same $175-$200 but decreasing by $5 each month were introduced meaning the longer you stayed in your contract, the lower the cancellation fee. It makes perfect se...
  • Verizon offering up Droid/Eris BOGO sale this Friday-Monday?! [Update]

    Posted December 2nd, 2009 at 3:11 pm
If you were holding of on getting an Android device to see what was coming up late this year or just to save a few pennies, it looks like this weekend through monday (December 4-7th) will be your best chance yet. We can pretty much guarantee that the Passion is coming to Verizon late this year rockin' a Snapdragon processor and....need I say more? Snapdragon dreams aside, the Droid and Eris aren't bad phones by any means, each with plenty of life left in them. So what about this BOGO? It per...
  • Consumer Reports reveals results to Best Carrier Service survey — AT&T gets the caboose.

Surprised? Ya, no one is surprised. AT&T; finishing last in call quality is a given. To be fair, none of the big four carriers: Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, or AT&T; ranked above 75. Even still, more written evidence of AT&T;'s saturated and broken network is disappointing. But the real disheartening thing is AT&T;'s misguided response: We appreciate and value all customer feedback. We learn from it and it helps us serve our customers better. Without question the surest indication of custome...
  • Droid passes 800,000 mark, sets 1,000,000 milestone in it’s sights?
    by Mike
    Posted November 30th, 2009 at 8:38 pm
Could the Droid really be nearing the 1,000,000 unit mark? If data collected by RBC Capital Markets analyst Mark Sue is to believed, the answer to that question is a resounding yet subdued "yes". In the age of the multi-million selling iPhone, hitting the 7-digit sales mark doesn't quite hold the significance or weight that it used to. Mind you, it's still no small feat. While the latest iPhone 3GS sold over 1 million units in a weekend, you have to remember that it was available in multiple...
