  • HTC dual wielding smartphones/platforms on Verizon this fall.

CDMA users often feel left out when it comes to cool phones and such as their GSM brethren are often first to get all the coolest geeky stuff. This fall Verizon is looking to spruce up their offerings a tad with two promising contestants both coming from HTC land. The first up, the HTC Imagio will bring Big Red their first tasting of WinMo 6.5 come early October packing a 3.6-inch WVGA touchscree, 528MHz Qualcom core, 512MB/256 ROM/RAM, 5 megapixel shooter w/ auto-focus and anti-shake features...
  • Verizon to snag 3 2 Android handsets by years end?
    by Mike
    Posted September 17th, 2009 at 7:09 am
You're speculation/rumor light should be going full bore right now as what is about to be presented to you is pretty lofty though not so much so that it is completely unbelievable. Starting off, the rumor is based off of a DigiTimes article (please bare with me...give it a chance) that Verizon will be launching both the HTC Desire and HTC Passion (Google phone) in the 4th quarter, bringing the end of year Android count to 3. The reason for the speculation and thought provoking conversation c...

Even though smartphones and other devices consumer most of my time and interest, there are many people out there who don't like all of that high tech stuff. Instead, simple features are enough to get them through her day. Said users may want an easy and efficient way to use Twitter on their Now-enabled Verizon handsets. Today is your day. Introducing Tweet-Tweet, a Now device Twitter client. The list of features includes: posting tweets, RT, DM, and the ability to follow all from within t...
  • AT&T/T-Mobile/Verizon take note — Sprint announces $70 plan w/ unlimited calling, data, text, MMS
    by Mike
    Posted September 10th, 2009 at 6:18 am
Why am I crying? Because I everytime I get my AT&T; phone bill (speak of the devil...just received my email notice they're ready to collect), I look at my $95 dues and question the charge. "Am I really getting $95 worth of service?" For many, the answer would be a momentous and resounding "Hell No!". For myself, I came to the same conclusion -- that is, AT&T;, as well as pretty much every other carrier over charges for service. Heck, a paltry 450 minutes and unlimited data costs $70/month. ...
  • TouchPro 2 to land on Verizon for $199.99? Sprint and T-Mobile weep…
    by Mike
    Posted September 4th, 2009 at 12:32 pm
If you've got a message to send to your competition, undercutting their pricing scheme by a good $100-$150 on one of the most popular WinMo handsets on the market seems to be a good start. While T-Mobile and Sprint both took the higher road and priced their HTC TouchPro 2 WinMo powered handsets at $350, Verizon, according to a reliable BGR source, will be launching an all out assault with extremely aggressive pricing. How aggressive you ask? Try $199.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate. Yikes! ...
  • US Broadband Providers argue their case for laughable “broadband speeds”
    by Mike
    Posted September 2nd, 2009 at 10:11 am
Image above is slightly outdated as South Korea, Japan, and France in particular now average 10-35Mpbs more Sadly, the US sinks further and further out of relevance when the topic of global broadband speeds are brought up. Are average speeds pail in comparison to many other countries. Just a few numbers to get you all in a bunch: US Average Broadband Speeds: 4.8Mbps Japan widely offers speeds of 80+Mbps South Korea also is around the 70-80Mbps mark Even France slaughters us with speeds...
  • Verizon showing some back-to-school BOGO/BOGA love.
    by Mike
    Posted August 14th, 2009 at 6:37 am
Forget BOGO. Verizon's back-to-school sale is now going by the acronym of BOGA. Instead of their usual buy one BlackBerry get a second free, you can now buy one BlackBerry and you can choose not only another BlackBerry, but any other Verizon device, USB modem, mifi, etc. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me. While you do have to weed your way through a rebate, the final outcome is still leaving you better off than if you hadn't come across this deal at all. Seems BlackBerries are becoming an e...
  • Fight the good fight and stick it to the man…the greedy man
    by Mike
    Posted July 30th, 2009 at 1:26 pm
When you're in a hurry and have to leave someone a message on their voicemail, you want to do it right this second, not 15, 20, or 30 seconds from now. Another reason for the quick message is not only because of time constraints but more importantly to save a few pennies. Those precious seconds you're stuck on the phone listening to some stupid recording when you could be yapping away yourself costs against your minutes, and if you're over your minutes they go on your bill as nasty overages....
  • Verizon to get low end BlackBerry savior: 8530
    by Mike
    Posted July 29th, 2009 at 5:31 am
If you just so happened to be one of those CDMA toters in the BlackBerry world, always looking over your shoulder at your GSM frenemies with jealousy and haste as you watch them time and time again get the coolest berries first and even exclusively, you sometimes find yourself questioning your odd yet steadfast alliance to this less used wireless technology CDMA. While the top of the line BlackBerries always leave us speechless and ecstatic, the bottom end needs just as much lovin' too. Not...
  • Palm Pre now on Verizon! [Illegitimately]
    by Mike
    Posted July 10th, 2009 at 11:21 am
The Palm Pre is considered by many as the one thing that kept Palm from going completely belly up in the year 2009. While it won't turn the company into an Apple-esque super power overnight, it is at least keeping the lights on. Sadly, CDMA lovers in the U.S. have only one option in which to purchase a Palm Pre: Sprint. However, Cleanser, a member of PreCentral forum, has managed to do the seemingly impossible. He unlocked his Pre and got it up and *mostly* running on Verizon (voice and SM...
  • VZW grows a brain cell…now allowing current users to pre-order BlackBerry Tour
    by Mike
    Posted July 2nd, 2009 at 2:17 pm
The last few days if you mentioned the words, Verizon, current user, and pre-order BlackBerry Tour, you may have wittnessed a small example of what standing next to a nuclear explosion was like. Verizon's early decision to lock out current customers from being able to pre-order what is easily the best CDMA BlackBerry to date was downright ludicrous. Thankfully cooler heads have prevailed and the consumer has once again won another battle thanks to the power of voices in numbers. So, I leave...
  • Verizon again takes top honors in call quality/speed tests
    by Mike
    Posted June 30th, 2009 at 12:12 pm
While AT&T; and their iPhone may claim to be the top dog in the cellular marketplace, they're nothing but an old dirty mutt gimping along on two and a half legs. Yes...it's that bad. But hey, lets start with the good. A test conducted in 13 cities by PC World shoed Verizon pulling ahead in the mobile speed race with download speeds averaging 951Kbps with an 89.8% "uptime" (read: uninterupted performance). Sprint wasn't that far behind passing the gates at a still brisk 808kbps and 90.5% rel...
