    Posted June 24th, 2009 at 3:25 pm
Crack addicts your addiction will soon be given a shot of new life. The BlackBerry Tour is now showing up on Verizon rebate forms with "valid dates" from June 28th-August 1st. We could see the Tour drop anytime within that window. Obviously, we're all hoping it's closer to the 28th, but we'll just have to wait and see. What are you doing in the meantime to pass the time? • Verizon vendor theme for non CDMA Blackberries
    by Mike
    Posted June 2nd, 2009 at 11:03 am
Since I'm stuck with an 8320 until the Onyx/Magnum come out, I decided to try and track down that Verizon vendor theme that I once had on my 8320 (before I switched to an iPhone). At the time of the 8330's release, the Verizon theme was one of a few bottom dock themes for that series of device - hence the hype surrounding it. While true hardcore Blackberry users who have an eye for candy generally switch to 3rd party themes, some people prefer the fast and simple interface the stock vendor t...
  • Blackberry data outage marks the entrance into June
    by Mike
    Posted June 2nd, 2009 at 2:51 am
Sooooooo, Blackberry users, how was your Monday afternoon/evening?  Did you get along alright with shoddy BIS service?  Apparently there was a massive network issue affecting users from all U.S. markets at the bare minimum.   Were you affected?  How did you pass the time?  Did your individual service even stop at all?  I know for a small time period in the early evening my service actually did stop as any browsing attempts proved futile and other data related tasks skipped and sputter...
  • Poor Sprint - Palm Pre soon getting into bed with everyone else on the block
    by Mike
    Posted May 28th, 2009 at 1:59 pm
While Sprint probably hoped that the Pre was its saving grace in regards to stopping the bleeding of customers by bringing a new, exciting, and exclusive device to the once great carrier, it appears as one particular part of that equation, the ever important "exclusive" part, is simply a short stay. Matters took a turn for the worse when an AT&T sourced document leaked comparing a Palm Pre to an iPhone in more friendly, what-device-are-you form. Further stomping on Sprint's face is now ...
  • Verizon cares more about money…less about trivial things such as life
    by Mike
    Posted May 27th, 2009 at 9:37 am
Stories of horrendous acts of stupidity and shame emitting from various tech support/cs departments across the land are by no means an uncommon thing. It even seems at times as if a degree in stupid is actually needed to be a tech/cs rep. (I know not all reps are stupid...I'm merely highlighting a story...take it easy). Today's batch of incompetence comes to us by way of Verizon. Apparently a 62 year old man from Carrollton, OH in the midst of a mental breakdown decided it was time to end ...
  • Storm2 gets spied and manhandled
    by Mike
    Posted May 21st, 2009 at 12:46 pm
Those lucky people over at Engadget are the luckiest dudes in the business right now. They were able to sneak some quick hands on time with the Storm2, the only disappointing part being that a bug prevented them from doing pretty much anything besdies staring at the activation screen. GREAT NEWS!!! That half-baked/crappy surepress click screen is gone and has been replaced by a traditional (and much better) capacitive display. We can finally type faster and more accurately on the screen. *...
  • Blackberry Tour appears in Verizon’s inventory system: July 13th release
    by Mike
    Posted May 15th, 2009 at 10:32 am
CDMA Blackberry fans will no doubt be glad to hear (and see) that the Blackberry Tour is finally hitting Verizon inventory systems.  As you can kind of clearly see the release data as of now is slated for July 13th.  I for one love the style of the Tour more than the Bold, though I would gladly take the Bold relating to service provider and WiFi.  I guess that's what the Driftwood/Onyx is for right? In case you forgot what the Tour is bringing over to CDMA land see below: 480 x 320 di...
  • Verizon’s LTE rollout schedule gets a bit more specific
    by Mike
    Posted May 14th, 2009 at 3:46 am
Verizon users who were longing for a more specific rollout date for the carriers foray into next gen 4G/LTE networks will have something happy to look forward to this morning.  Yesterday, May 13th, during a conference call, CEO Lowell McAdam stated that Big Red plans on launching their LTE network in 20-30 markets starting in the second half of 2010 with "nation wide coverage being complete sometime in late 2013 or early 2014. • Uh-oh…Blackberry OS 4.7.0.141 fails Big Red’s wireless testing.
    by Mike
    Posted May 11th, 2009 at 7:43 am
Blackberry Storm users who were desperately waiting for the latest 4.7.0.141 update to drop on Verizon bringing some much needed TLC to RIM's often talked about Blackberry Storm, your wait has just been extended. According to a BG ninja, the latest firmware update failed Verizon Wireless' testing because of the ever persistent glitches that have become a nagging problem that just won't go away on RIM's first foray into the touchscreen world. So what does RIM have to say for themselves? Noth...
  • May 13th: Verizon to hold Q&A seminar for 4G network/devices
    by Mike
    Posted May 6th, 2009 at 5:47 pm
The wireless auction that Verizon won last year for a pocket change amount of $5 billion came with some strings, namely a string stating that whoever won the auction must keep the network "open".  Verizon being the more walled garden providers of the bunch, no matter what you thought, would somehow manage to bring at least a few small fences to Google's open pasture by way of new guidelines that developers of software and hardware have to meet in order to use Verizon's new 4G network that w...
  • Verizon’s heart growing larger by the day, soon offering free WiFi access to home broadband subscribers.
    by Mike
    Posted May 2nd, 2009 at 2:03 pm
Verizon hasn't exactly been the nicest most "consumer friendly" company in years past with overly restrictive policies, particularly in their wireless market.  However, lately they have been getting a slightly better image if not from their own powers, from the outright abysmal image of their rivals.  (Such as the ongoing Time Warner fiasco which makes Verizon look like an angel).  Well, it seems as if Verizon is ready to let their hearts grow just a tad larger.  The newly consumer lovin...
  • Think FiOS is fast? Well…it used to be…
    by Mike
    Posted April 28th, 2009 at 5:48 am
Verizon FiOS users who once bragged about their insanely fast internet connection will now be left sucking the dust from Optimum Online/Cable Vision subscribers. Just announced, Cable Vision's new Ultra plans put the speed back in speed. With numbers like 101 Mbps down and 15 Mbps up, you can sure put a mighty dent in several RIAA/label/copyright holders' pockets. (Not that we're endorsing that in any way). Speed with such swiftness must cost an arm and a leg and maybe even a sacrificial...
