    by Mike
    Posted October 14th, 2009 at 6:17 am
**Update: Microsoft's pet unicorn works wonders as they announce that "most, if not all" customer data lost during the great Sidekick slaying of '09 is restored or soon to be. Whew! So, conspiracy or simply mechanical failure mixed with a pinch of human error? **Update 2: A word from a TechCrunch via Microsoft: We have determined that the outage was caused by a system failure that created data loss in the core database and the back-up. We rebuilt the system component by component, r...
  • TMO getting Touch HD2 soon
    by Mike
    Posted October 4th, 2009 at 2:24 pm
The Touch HD2 isn't a secret. It's a monster 4.3" display, 1GHz processor, 5mp camera toting beast. Such a device will certainly please power users with plenty of speed on tap as well as a gorgeous display to stare at. The fact that TMO was getting this monster wasn't a secret. Neither was the *soon* release date that is sure to be approaching. What better evidence of an impending release than pictures of the device of lust on in-store computer systems? As you can see, this little gem abov...

The handset will allow users to "seamlessly" switch between satellite and cellular networks without hiccup. • Sprint does one for the little guy. Drops Touch Pro2 down to $199 [Update]
    by Mike
    Posted September 30th, 2009 at 8:06 am
Even though I'm not very well versed (read: not at all) in the Windows Mobile world, the Touch Pro2 is a striking handset with good looking hardware and some pretty decent specs to boot. The sky high price tag a couple retailers such as Sprint and T-Mobile were charging was a huge sticking point however. Sure the TP2 is a good phone, but is it $349 good? Many and I would venture to say most would claim "No". Noticing the math error, Sprint has gone ahead and restored some sense of civility t...
  • HTC: “The Chin” an Android exclusive
    by Mike
    Posted September 23rd, 2009 at 9:45 am
Do you like chin? Or, do you really like chin -- massive, larger than life, Jay Leno edition chin? If you don't, the chin on the first Android handset that debuted last year, the G1, most likely turned you off. A jutting piece of plastic is a hard thing to make attractive or market successfully. For the most part, the G1 has sold well chin and all. Perhaps your a freak. Maybe you like like or even long for that chin but camp out in the WinMo forest. Get your tissues and caress a soules...
  • Real PUSH finally graces Gmail service for all.
    by Mike
    Posted September 22nd, 2009 at 11:42 am
The bread and butter of BlackBerry is the robust messaging capabilities, especially the push email. So far, no one has replicated the ease or efficiency that RIM has brought forth with their little wonder Berry. Those lucky CrackBerry users were part of only a few select groups which had access to push Gmail. That was until today. Mark it in your calendars folks, today is the day Gmail become a much more useful email service. Freshly announced via their mobile blog, users of iPhone, Windo...

  • Follow up gravy train: Microsoft clears up kill switch concerns…
    by Mike
    Posted September 18th, 2009 at 12:36 pm
How about another follow up? The post from yesterday regarding the Microsoft Marketplace kill switch and the ability to remotely uninstall apps led to a flurry of fears and concerns yesterday. I will admit outright I had some pretty big concerns as the ability to do such a thing comes with great responsibility that has the potential to be misused quite easily. Luckily Microsoft has taken the time to reach out and clarify a bit more as to the usage of "the switch". From the horses mouth: ...
  • It’s Official: Palm dropping WinMo. Focusing solely on their baby of love webOS.
    by Mike
    Posted September 18th, 2009 at 6:48 am
In a move that was clearly obvious and needed if Palm was in fact serious about webOS's future, the boys in red (ink) have officially announced that going forward, all Palm handsets will feature webOS and webOS only. The announcement was made at Palm's earnings call likely in hopes to take everyone's mind off the vast amounts of red ink the company is going through. One thing is for certain however, Windows Mobile won't be seen lurking around Palm hardware anytime soon. Can't say I'm disapp...
  • Microsoft: Designed to fail in the mobile market
    by Mike
    Posted September 17th, 2009 at 12:04 pm
Say what you will about Microsoft and their mobile market line. One can't ignore that they are heading no where fast. Perhaps it would be good to start with the good -- the Xbox and Zune HD products. While the Xbox isn't a mobile product per se, it is by far one of their most popular consumer oriented devices. The second most popular I would wager is the Zune HD. Featuring reworked hardware, software, and all around better fit and finish, the Zune HD looks like a pretty decent winner on pap...
  • Verizon to snag 3 2 Android handsets by years end?
    by Mike
    Posted September 17th, 2009 at 7:09 am
You're speculation/rumor light should be going full bore right now as what is about to be presented to you is pretty lofty though not so much so that it is completely unbelievable. Starting off, the rumor is based off of a DigiTimes article (please bare with me...give it a chance) that Verizon will be launching both the HTC Desire and HTC Passion (Google phone) in the 4th quarter, bringing the end of year Android count to 3. The reason for the speculation and thought provoking conversation c...
