  • What is this mysterious Windows branded laptop on 30 Rock?
    by Mike
    Posted October 24th, 2009 at 9:06 pm
Eagle eyes by Chris from MobileWhack caught a seemingly average laptop being used on the show 30 Rock. On closer inspection however we can see what appears to be a glowing Windows logo. Microsoft doesn't make hardware in regards to actual computers. So what is it? A simple one-off made for the show or some slick skin/sticker? Most likely. I've noticed myself that Macs, particularly Macbook Pro's are becoming increasingly more common in TV commercials. Is Microsoft following Apple's lead...
  • PC Games made made fresh and ready to order at new Microsoft Store.

It's pretty much a given that any consumer electronic/gadget store is going to have a boat load of drool inducing products and services crammed under one roof. I mean, that's the whole point you go to such a store. But one particular feature of Microsoft's new Scottsdale, Arizona stands out from the rest and is actually really cool. So what is it? PC Games are made fresh on the spot for each order. Throughout the store, customers will find game kiosks which allow the customer to browser ...
  • Windows 7 and Boot camp not on talking terms. For now.
    by Mike
    Posted October 22nd, 2009 at 2:16 pm
Reports out of Cupertino are showing that Windows 7 junkies looking to have the latest and greatest dual-booting machine will have to wait until dear old Saint Nick pays them a visit. According to Apple, current versions of Boot Camp do not support Windows 7. Instead, dual-booting hopefuls will have to wait until "the end of this year" as well as sport a Snow Leopard equipped computer. One other stinging realization is that first gen Intel machines spanning 9 actual machines and 3 product...
  • Steve Ballmer: “I’m happy with where Windows Mobile 6.5 is now”
    by Mike
    Posted October 22nd, 2009 at 10:02 am
Only an idiot blindingly defending his company after he knows he and those under him failed would claim such a thing. The overall consensus on WinMo 6.5 is it still sucks while looking a tad prettier. In Gizmodo's multi-part interview with Microsoft's captain, Ballmer defends Windows Mobile saying he's "happy with where 6.5 is at now". But that isn't the only laugh inducing comment. No sir. Not by a long shot. Even more surprising if not ridiculous, he goes on to say that "at the end of ...
  • Windows 7 Whopper: 7 Pattiest of beef. 7 clogged arteries. Japan only.

If you find yourself a local of Japan looking for something to eat on your fine Thursday afternoon and also happen to be in the festive mood due to Microsoft's grand release of Windows 7 today, why not kill two birds with one stone. Or you could sling a 7 pattied whopper at them. A joint effort between Microsoft and Burger King of Japan has created one of the more "tasty" marketing campaigns for Windows 7. The special editition Whopper features all the usual toppings of a normal whopper + 5 a...
  • The original Windows 6.5.1 — now 7 mockups spied!

Images Property of Pocket Now **Update: Just in case....the bottom images are the new, leaked goodness. The top images are irrelevant relics of a dying dinosaur. I didn't think I would ever construct a sentence, in any language which consisted of Windows Mobile and "pretty damn good" in the same sentence. Based on physical looks alone, Microsoft is finally moving into 2008 with the mockups seen above. One things that is certainly eye brow raising is that according to Pocket Now's tipster,...
  • More evidence of a T-Mobile HTC HD2 launch?
    by Mike
    Posted October 14th, 2009 at 8:22 am
Photoshop is a wonderful tool. It is also a very deceiving tool. With that said, does the signage above look legit or fake? Tales of a HTC HD2/TMO release isn't new as rumors have been popping here and there telling the same tale. The picture above however while not exclusively mentioning "HTC" or "HD2" anywhere comes with a matching image and specs. Definitely intriguing. I wouldn't put it past TMO. With as much as they're trying to leapfrog carriers in hopes of catching a higher spot on...
  • Family Guy sinks to new low, Windows 7 product placement included.
    by Mike
    Posted October 14th, 2009 at 5:20 am
It can be recorded that Windows 7 does actually have me liking the whole Windows ecosystem again. Albeit not as much as I like Snow Leopard, still, Microsoft finally made right in the OS department with their upcoming release. However, just because I like their product doesn't mean I want to hear about it or get constant reminders that it exists. Case in point: A new, Microsoft sponsored, Windows 7 horn tooting Family guy dubbed "Family Guy Presents: Seth & Alex’s Almost Live Comedy Show"...
  • Windows 8 and 9 to feature 128-bit support
    by Mike
    Posted October 8th, 2009 at 7:23 am
The personified body of Windows 7 hasn't even been born to die and turn cold yet and already people are speculating away on Windows 8 and even 9! Though, the big draw behind this freshly built rumor is rather through provoking. The current trend in the OS market is the *full* move to 64-bit. The pluses over 32-bit are countless with the most often talked about being support for higher RAM capacities and overall faster system performance. But those with an eye to the future and looking farthe...
  • It’s Official: Palm dropping WinMo. Focusing solely on their baby of love webOS.
    by Mike
    Posted September 18th, 2009 at 6:48 am
In a move that was clearly obvious and needed if Palm was in fact serious about webOS's future, the boys in red (ink) have officially announced that going forward, all Palm handsets will feature webOS and webOS only. The announcement was made at Palm's earnings call likely in hopes to take everyone's mind off the vast amounts of red ink the company is going through. One thing is for certain however, Windows Mobile won't be seen lurking around Palm hardware anytime soon. Can't say I'm disapp...
  • HTC Leo makes WinMo somewhat bearable.
    by Mike
    Posted September 16th, 2009 at 1:18 pm
The HTC Leo, (pictured left) which for all intents and purposes a beast, is by far the phone I am most excited about in the near term, mostly because of that big, fat, 1GHz processor crammed underneath that 4.3" display. The Leo which we looked at just a day or two ago packs enough muscle to actually make Windows Mobile bearable. Now don't get me wrong, unless there is some wickedly nice skin on top of the shipping version of WinMo, I still couldn't call this my daily driver, though I would ...
  • Windows Marketplace for Mobile getting kill switch/remote kill
    by Mike
    Posted September 16th, 2009 at 9:15 am
Now, I'll start by saying that Microsoft is not the first entity to employee a kill switch in their App Store. Their are also kill switches in Android and Apple's App Store. However Microsoft's approach or at least the way it's been presented leaves me a tad more worried than other stores do. Why so? Well, like the name implies, the Microsoft supported kill switch automatically remove any app blacklisted and/or removed from Windows Marketplace for Mobile after said app has already been app...
