Windows Mobile diehards, all 13 of you gather 'round. Microsoft's CFO Peter Klein has given us all a grand display of his loose lips by sharing that Mobile World Congress in Barcelona will in fact be the home of the world's first WinMo 7 unveiling. Can anyone say saweet?! For a quick refresher, WinMo 7 will bring with it legitimate support for capacitive screens, a heavily *fingers crossed* reworked Windows Mobile UI, and speed/navigation improvements across the board. All-in-all, for s...
  • Android or WinMo? Gen. Y DualBOOT says “Both”.

WinMo isn't doing so hot right now but Microsoft hopes to remedy that with WinMo 7 which we may or may not be seeing in a few short weeks at MWC. Android on the other hand is enjoying a massive growth in popularity. Both OS's do share a common trait however -- they're easily tweakable and available on a variety of hardware. If you are having a hard time choosing between one or the other, take comfort in knowing that the answer to "Which OS?" will soon be easy -- Both! The ever talented fol...
  • Android 2.0 seen struttin’ it’s stuff on HTC Touch HD.

Those of you on the other side of the fence (as in the WindowsMobile fence) now have something else to brag about concerning your WinMo hardware. Being highly customizable and tweakable via hacking means, HTC WinMo devices in particular make a good platform for tweakers. In many instances, Android is being compared to WindowsMobile in many ways. The ability to flash custom ROM's, tweak, and customize the OS is among the chief comparisons I've heard. With that said, how would you like to se...
  • Basic browser speed tests show Android getting one upped by…Windows Mobile?
    by Mike
    Posted January 11th, 2010 at 7:15 am
Many don't believe that Windows Mobile has any chance in the mobile sphere any longer. With what seems like countless delays and an OS that currently languishes behind the rest of the modern competition, performing favorably in a browser test would come as a bit of a surprise if not much needed limelight grabbing move for a troubled OS. Such are the happenings of a recent browser speed test conducted by E's Phone Blog. Just in case you're in a rush, the top three spots are as follows: #1...
  • WinMo 6.5.3 to preclude WinMo 7. Keep us ever waiting for what we really want.
    by Mike

I think it's safe to assume pretty much any and every WinMo fan still out there is ready for WinMo 7. Microsoft however has other plans as a blurb on a MSDN page mentions a version 6.5.3. I'm all for incremental updates and constant tweaks here and there, but WinMo 6.5 in it's entirety needs more than a few tenths added to it's version number. Not to mention, any resources spent on prepping, launching, and supporting 6.5.3 would be better spent on version 7, don't you think? WinMo 7 couldn't...
  • LG LS680 to bring Android and WiMax(?) to Sprint. CES tells all…
    by Mike
    Posted December 28th, 2009 at 10:15 am
A few days back we touched on Sprint and LG's exciting announcement planned for CES 2010. Oh my, what could it be? For many, a WiMax device is all but certain. The OS however was sorta kinda up in the air. WinMo or Android? Both are very well possible and probably certain at some point. For the next few days at least, Android has the nod as a new screenshot sent to BGR this morning shows an LG Android device sittin' pretty in system computers. The only thing we do know is that the $1 pla...
  • HTC HD2 video showing TMO branding all but confirms what we already knew…

Regardless of your opinion on Windows Mobile, you have to admit that the HTC HD2 -- all 4.3" of it's glass faced frontal beauty -- is a drop dead gorgeous phone. Currently however, US citizens are left without any official channels to pick up a subsidized or even a US version of the device. That's all set to change in the not too distant future. A video (below) showing a new "2.0.1" ROM showcases among other things, a very familiar magenta boot image that goes "Stick Together" -- a TMO sl...
  • HTC HD2 not so invincible. Pavement works wonders on HD2’s blemish-free face.

Even though I'm not a WinMo person I can certainly feel the heartache and pain WMPower User l3v5y must be feeling. While we love to brag about the resilience of modern gadgets -- especially large glass faced smartphones -- this picture above (and inside) go to illustrate that nothing is invincible. You know, a bit of reality now and then keeps us grounded and prevents us from "over testing" our gadgets' strength and durability. In the end, the pavement came out swinging, ultimately dealin...
  • Windows Mobile 7 will better embrace entertainment, web browsing.
    by Mike
    Posted December 2nd, 2009 at 1:33 pm
If you could pick one thing that bugs you most about Windows Mobile, what would it be? Would it be the ugly interface, poor touch screen support, sluggish performance even on top of the line hardware, *insert reasoning here*? One thing is for certain, Windows Mobile needs more consumer minded design and implementation. What was once a corporate staple has since fallen to other victors such as RIM and doesn't begin to even hold a candle on the multimedia front when compared to the iPhone. Win...
  • HTC Touch.B brings Touch Pro-esque goodness back to market with Android on board.
    by Mike
    Posted December 1st, 2009 at 5:42 pm
The HTC Touch Pro 2 is a pretty sweet WinMo device. To some, WinMo is a short coming, a flaw, a gimp leg that prevents the Touch Pro 2 from being the true mobile powerhouse it could be. For that I present to you the HTC Touch.B/Rome. The big reason to care about this particular phone isn't necessarily for the hardware but instead for the software that resides within -- Android. Details are nil for the moment. But rest assured that as the sun makes its way towards the eastern sky tomorrow morni...
  • Does HTC “needs to take care of WinMo”?
    by Mike
    Posted October 29th, 2009 at 8:37 am
Those hoping to see HTC do as Motorola and pass up WinMo 6.5 and instead climb into bed with Android while the world waits for WinMo 7 will be sorely disappointed. According to a recent interview conducted by, HTC's CEO Peter Chou stated that while the market and their customers in particular are eager for more Android handsets, the company [HTC] has to "take care of WinMo". It's kind of disheartening really. No one should take care of WinMo except Microsoft. If they can't get...
  • 7″ C-motech “Mangrove” tablet a 1GHz Snapdragon MID

Living the life as a mobile internet tablet is full of obscurity and not knowing exactly what your purpose in life is. I mean, smartphones are small and powerful, easily able to slip into a pocket. Laptops are small computers that also have copious amounts of power on board (mid-higher end anyway) and are also relatively portable. Tablets and MID on the other hand are sort of stuck in a never ending limbo as they're way to big to be categorized as a smartphone and often too underpowered and...
  • More evidence of a T-Mobile HTC HD2 launch?

Photoshop is a wonderful tool. It is also a very deceiving tool. With that said, does the signage above look legit or fake? Tales of a HTC HD2/TMO release isn't new as rumors have been popping here and there telling the same tale. The picture above however while not exclusively mentioning "HTC" or "HD2" anywhere comes with a matching image and specs. Definitely intriguing. I wouldn't put it past TMO. With as much as they're trying to leapfrog carriers in hopes of catching a higher spot on...
  • Windows Mobile 6.5 — “No thank you” says Motorola
    by Mike
    Posted October 6th, 2009 at 2:28 pm
And another nail in the Windows Mobile 6.5 coffin. As if it wasn't bad enough already, Motorola, a major manufacturer who has supported Windows Mobile for ages is "waiting" to see Microsoft's next move in the mobile market meaning 6.5 ain't gonna cut it! This is in line with earlier statements of a "two, strategic mobile os approach" as Motorola's Christy Wyat was quoted saying: we (Motorola) are waiting for the next generation of platform software from Microsoft before it will begin maki...
  • TMO getting Touch HD2 soon
    by Mike
    Posted October 4th, 2009 at 2:24 pm
The Touch HD2 isn't a secret. It's a monster 4.3" display, 1GHz processor, 5mp camera toting beast. Such a device will certainly please power users with plenty of speed on tap as well as a gorgeous display to stare at. The fact that TMO was getting this monster wasn't a secret. Neither was the *soon* release date that is sure to be approaching. What better evidence of an impending release than pictures of the device of lust on in-store computer systems? As you can see, this little gem abov...
