Apple’s Push notifications while grossly past due from their original due date of last year, were at least delayed for good reason. At the iPhone OS 3.0 preview, Apple stated the delay was because of “developers suggesting ideas and methods of implementing the push service that they had never thought of”, which in return required a complete re-write of the service, hence the massive delay. But the real question is why does Apple refuse to bring by far the most requested and undoubtedly most important feature, background processes, to the iPhone platform?

With all of the lawsuits surrounding Apple and AT&T concerning the iPhone and signal reception it’s no secret that they want to stop the flow of lawsuits. Though the method they use is less than ideal.

For the general population, browsers and the differences in between themselves are hardly a care. As long as they can get online, read their articles and pay their bills, the general population is a happy population. Therein lies the problem. While many things can continue on positively for years with the mentality of “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, technology and the internet are not like that — not in the slightest. Case in point, a disproportionate amount of internet users are still using IE6, a browser that is now 9 years old! If you’re looking for a conversion into human years, 9 years in the technology world is way past dead in the human world (give or take a year or two).

While there were many things announced yesterday at WWDC, several of those pertaining to the new iPhone 3GS, one in particular left me wanting more - the camera. The old iPhone 2G and 3G cameras were 2 megapixel shooters with nothing else to aid in mobile static image gathering. The new iPhone 3GS uses a *slightly* higher resolution 3 megapixel camera, except this time auto-focus, auto-white balance, and a few other small software tweaked features are also added. As soon as I saw the camera I thought to myself “That’s it?”. Do you find yourself asking the same question?

When you’re in a hurry and have to leave someone a message on their voicemail, you want to do it right this second, not 15, 20, or 30 seconds from now. Another reason for the quick message is not only because of time constraints but more importantly to save a few pennies. Those precious seconds you’re stuck on the phone listening to some stupid recording when you could be yapping away yourself costs against your minutes, and if you’re over your minutes they go on your bill as nasty overages. Pretty shady huh!? But there is a hope for us mere mortals yet.
