Regretting hitting that “Download & Update” button for iOS 5.1? Yeah. You’re not alone. Me too. While the regained stability is nice, I desperately miss some of those handy tweaks like TwitkaFly and BiteSMS. Currently, A4 (and previous) devices can jailbreak iOS 5.1 — tethered only. A5 devices (iPad 2 and iPhone 4S) are stuck with no working jailbreak, tethered or untethered.
But that will change very soon. iOS hackers @bassamkassem1 and @Hunterbeckham claim to have an iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak. The video is posted on http://bassam.net76.net/Home.html and shows your typical tour of the iOS system, showing full-screen shots, settings panels, Cydia’s home screen etc. Details such as what exploit the duo used hasn’t been divulged, though the hackers promise “more is coming very soon”. Best part — this will work on A4 and A5 devices. We’re still waiting to hear whether or not the 3rd-gen iPad and it’s A5X are included in this little shindig. Update: No iPad 3/A5X support.
