Uh-oh. Unlimited data users using the grandfathered data plan may want to re-think just how important the iPhone 4S is to them and if they’d rather enjoy another year of unlimited data until the next-gen iPhone arrives. 9to5Mac is reporting AT&T could be making it impossible for unlimited data plans to venture past the iPhone 4. The source, GadgetChris received the message above when upgrading to the iPhone 4S. The underlying message: AT&T is clamping down whether it be by unlimited data availability or throttling. Anyone else receive similar messages?
Update
Jordan, our very own tech enthusiast, has confirmed that at least on his grandfathered account, unlimited data is automatically removed when adding the iPhone 4S. We’re still awaiting a response from AT&T.
Update 2
We just received word back from AT&T — unlimited data plans can be kept. If you “keep clicking continue you’ll still see the unlimited data plan” in your account. According to the AT&T spokesperson we talked to, AT&T is working on making the webpages more clear regarding unlimited data.
