It’s True. HTC’s Beats Audio Acquiring MOG. Deal Not Yet Closed.

The rumors from yesterday which saw HTC’s new Beats Audio division doing a little acquiring of their own appears to be true. AllThingsD is reporting that the HTC-owned unit is in the final stages of hammering out a deal to acquire the music streaming business MOG.

Since the actual deal hasn’t been officially closed, information regarding the final price Beats Audio will be paying for MOG isn’t yet available.

What will be interesting (and potentially saddening) to see is if MOG is merely adopted into HTC’s lineup of Beats branded devices and largely kept in tact for even non-HTC/Beats hardware owners or if HTC/Beats chop the streaming service apart and use the underlying core for their own service — doing so would certainly save time, as ATD’s Peter Kafka states. The latter option would no doubt disappoint the 500,000+ MOG users who’ve come to favor the service over its heavier focus on streaming music quality; MOG has supported and streamed higher quality 320 Kbps audio longer than Spotify and Rdio.

More as it becomes available.
