SpringBoard Invaders Creates Time Machine That Only Goes To 1978

Anyone remember that amazing arcade game from the late 70′s? Space Invaders – one of the most addicting games I have ever played. We actually have one of the original units at our GS headquarters that gets used day in and day out. It usually ends up making me happy and Mike mad, but that is what you get when you are a n00b at the 70s type pwning like he is.

Anyways, now that it is 2011, we have iPhones. If you are like us, you probably have your iPhone Jailbroken which means you are rocking tons of emulators. Playing legendary games like Super Mario Bros., Excite Bike, Battle Toads, and even some Atari games. Whether or not, you probably have at least heard of Space Invaders, or have had the high score in your local pizza parlor or arcade.

But thanks to the amazing 3rd party app/tweak devs that are out and about – Velocity Apps – we have the gem that is SpringBoard Invaders!! This amazing tweak turns an extra added SpringBoard page into a widget style game that lets you pwn all the retina icons you want…

To access the game, all you need to do is swipe to a newly created SpringBoard page – it creates a new one after all of your other pages – and you are automatically thrown into the fun. You use the built in accelerometer to move your tiny invader and tap the screen to unleash 50cal mini icon bullets at your normal sized icons foreheads! A high score is kept and posted at the top of the screen, along with your current score and how many lives you have left(you are given 5). To suspend the game, simply get to another SpringBoard page. It’s as easy as that! Beware though, once you hit around 1000 points, they really start moving fast – it’s like the final levels of Tetris!!!

The game is available right now over at Cydia for only a $1. I have already purchased it using the corporate Gadgetsteria AMEX and I must say, if it wasn’t for the fact I make millions writing articles and can afford anything, I would of purchased it myself.

If my DisplayRecord iPhone app was working at the moment, I’d give you a video, but it isn’t – sorry :(

Either way, with as quick as this is to load, and the fact that it is somewhat widget like instead of an app that loads up, I highly recommend this. For the $1 price tag, you can’t beat the old school fun you’ll be having – especially since you can shoot your icons!

5/5 rating – Solid fun, great price, fun tweak!
